I don't get it, just tuned in to the it similar to that phrase "you can't polish a turd"?

Lucycat Wed 10-Sep-08 22:15:06

when McCain used it first!

Yes that is what amused me when the BBc just showes a clip of McCain using it to describe Hilary or her policies. It must be a well used insult in the states!

FanjolinaJolly Wed 10-Sep-08 22:17:25

Was he speaking of his running mate?

twinsetandpearls Wed 10-Sep-08 22:17:36

I think so Turkey. I think polishing a turd (or shit shining grin) is worse than pigs in lipstick.

They are obsessed with animals in lipstick , it was a pitbull last week!

Mmm, it sounds like McCain is just transferring his own feelings about his previous opponent here. Obama was talking about a policy, not an individual.

Hope this comes right back to bite McCain on the bum.

<<Mr Obama made the remark during a rally in Virginia where he accused the McCain campaign of trying suddenly to adopt the promise of change - a platform he himself has been running on for months.

Drawing a link between the Republican senator for Arizona and President George W Bush, he suggested change would be impossible for Mr McCain to achieve.

"You can put lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig. You can wrap up an old fish in a piece of paper and call it change. It's still going to stink after eight years. We've had enough.">>
