Angelina Jolie and post natal depression

Apparently she is struggling

I am not surprised with the size of her brood and this is not meant to be a gloating thread.

I just think it would be great for mothers everywhere if she admitted this and maybe talked about it a bit at some point (of course the last thing you want to do in the throws of post partum is speak to the media!)

We could do with more 'real' mothers instead of trying to live up to unrealistic expectations

I have to say for the first time ever I thought that the quote from Brad Pitt made him sound like a total arse..

"I will have another two this time next year!!!" WFT!

Twims Sun 07-Sep-08 22:47:15

Agree POGS Brad Pitt sounds like an arse grin

ranting Sun 07-Sep-08 22:49:16

I should think though that if she does have PND then the last thing she will be thinking about is speaking out to help other mothers tbh. But yes I do see what you're getting at.

I have to admit every time I read about J-Lo having a fit about germs around her babies, I think hmmm, wonder if she has PND.

saggyhairyarse Sun 07-Sep-08 22:52:05

I haven't heard what Brad has said.

So far as Angelina goes, having twins has got to be hard. How old are the babies? They aren't more than a few months old are they? And whilst of course she could have PND and I would have every sympathy, she might 'just' be completely knackered.

I am not in the least bit surprised poor thing. Twins knocked me for six and in my case they are my 1st and 2nd kids.

She has 6 kids under 7 years of age and if she's got any sense at all she won't have any more.

Someone remind how many staff they have?

Heated Sun 07-Sep-08 23:15:28

Didn't she say something about feeling more for her adopted children than her bio ones? Sorry am a bit vague on detail but maybe it has a bearing.

angelene Sun 07-Sep-08 23:16:27

NO NO NO NO NO NO

If this is the Grazia thing I have had to hold myself back from phoning them up and ranting at the editor.

She is 2 months out from having twins by cs, is bfing them probably every 3 hours and has a multitude of other kids.

The idea that she HAS to come out to satisfy the nasty, sack of shit so called 'womens' magazines is just ridiculous - they would criticise her for not looking like a farking stick insect if she did show up.

I know there was that OK Supermum cover the other week but I can't imagine she calls herself that.

She really can't win.

ScottishMummy Sun 07-Sep-08 23:18:57

if she has that is sad.wealth and fame cannot cushion one from this dreadful illness

cupsoftea Sun 07-Sep-08 23:20:55

People to take care of everything whilst she bf her twins - as least she doesn't have real life to contend with

Heated Sun 07-Sep-08 23:22:18

She bf? shock

roseability Sun 07-Sep-08 23:27:37

I agree angelene, women's mags are fowl

They bully women with terms such as 'supermum' to make us feel inadequate

I am NOT gloating and as a past sufferer of PND I feel very sorry for her should it be true

I just wish we had some more realistic role models

Gunnerbean Mon 08-Sep-08 00:19:54

Is it any wonder that Brad Pitt made that comment when all his wife seems intent on doing is trawling the globe with monotonous regularity identifying random children from every continent to adopt. It seems like an obsession with her.

I've no doubt she will have two more by this time next year.

I'd strongly advise her to call it quits now, acknowledge what her limitations are and from now on just make substantial donations out of her mega bucks to charitable bodies in third world countries to help orphans and sick children.

Surely that's got to be preferable to keeping on plucking just one child from here and one from there to live in the lap of luxury in LA?

MarsLady Mon 08-Sep-08 00:37:24

She's bfing twins so she's bound to be exhausted. It really doesn't matter how many children she has. Two newborns is bloody knackering. I know people with lots of help who are struggling and people with none who are not. She may have help but unless she has a wet nurse she's full time feeding those twins (I remember it well)

I think that Brad was being sarcastic when he said "two more next year".

goodasgold Mon 08-Sep-08 00:49:12

Is she really bfing twins? Good on her. That's more than a full time job and a good enough role model.

AnnVan Mon 08-Sep-08 01:01:32

Brooke Shields was open about suffering PND and look what happened to her, subjected to a disgusting attack by that total arse Tom Cruise criticising her for having taken antidepressants to get over it.

ElfOnTheTopShelf Mon 08-Sep-08 12:18:49

I did read an article in NOW the other day and had a little chuckle. Not because she may have PND, but because of comments such as they "didn't expect it to be so hard"... well, how could it NOT be hard having seven children under seven, regardless of how many nannies you can afford?

cocolepew Mon 08-Sep-08 12:21:26

You can't believe a thing in magazines, the quotes are allways 'from a friend' or a 'source close to them'. They just make it up.

ElfOnTheTopShelf Mon 08-Sep-08 12:23:37

Sorry, six under seven.

I do have a lot of admiration of what they have done though.

cheesesarnie Mon 08-Sep-08 12:26:55

shes only human

Boyswillbeboys Tue 09-Sep-08 10:55:26

I feel sorry for her, but can't help wanting to say "I told you so!" I'm sure she had the children's best interests at heart, but by having so many children so quickly as well as adopting she is spreading herself too thin and it won't do her or the kids any favours.
