have these people no restraint?!

sale bargains

Hulababy Thu 10-Feb-05 22:09:43

Oh, I heard about this on the Radio 2 news, and some of the presenters talking about it. Can't believe sme have said it is Ikea's fault though becuase their offers were too good! From other witnesses from inside it would seem that some people half way down the queue just started pushing and shoving to force themselves inside. Madness!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! That's fantastic. I mean obviously I'm sorry for anyone that was hurt, don't get me wrong, but who on earth wants an Ikea sofa that badly?! (PS I'm intruiged by the story 'Testicle-ripping woman imprisoned' listed at the bottom of the link....!!)

Hulababy Thu 10-Feb-05 22:11:34

"Sofas at the store were on sale for as little as £45" THis is one of the offers that some people have said caused the riot - but there were apparantly 100s of these sofas on sale, not just one or two!

And another ont hat report says there was no control - but there wee 45 security guards according to the BBC.

oh this one? never underestimate a woman - ouch!

Joolstoo Thu 10-Feb-05 22:12:43

could you be arsed queuing up at MIDNIGHT for ANYTHING?

Hulababy Thu 10-Feb-05 22:14:15

LOL. NO! For me to queue up at midnight the offer would have to have been nearer a sofa for £1!!! And it was cold last night. Ikea staff had been handing out drinks and hotdogs to people who had started queuing hours before midnight.

Oh wait, just had thought though - anyone on MN queue last night????

Free chocolate, maybe....

nope. considered it, but then remembered how comfty my bed was.

(the springs have gone on my sofa, and need a new one but dont want to spend a fortune on one as the kdis will wreak it)

Hulababy Thu 10-Feb-05 22:16:35

babies out in that cold that late Now, I defeinitely don't need a sofa that much.

Mind you, I do remember DD bing awake at that time when tiny - so maybe not such a strange time to go shopping - but not Ikea opening surely!!!

Hulababy Thu 10-Feb-05 22:17:05

misdee - you might still get one. They closed about about 20 minutes, so don't think they'll have gone!

misdee Thu 10-Feb-05 22:17:35

i used to take dd1 out for walks late at night to settle her if she was grizxzly. but not to a shop.

hula, no way of getting it home, i'm not strong. if mine gets any worse i'll just get one of their basic sofas for about £150 anyway.

Hulababy Thu 10-Feb-05 22:18:35

Did nearly take DD to Asda 24 hour shop once - as I was getting so desperate! But, I don't think I'd have managed Ikea - on a normal day, let alone opeing night.

Hulababy Thu 10-Feb-05 22:19:17

Exactly misdee. Maybe they were thinking they could use the prams to push their goodies home in/on.

Gwenick Thu 10-Feb-05 22:20:33

You have to pay ME to make me buy anything from IKEA

stupidgirl Thu 10-Feb-05 22:20:55

misdee Thu 10-Feb-05 22:23:15

gwenick, we know you hate ikea, but you have to say that as your dh isd in the furniture business

i paid near on £1000 for this sofa i have now 3years ago from courts and its sh*te. i'd rather spend £150 on a cheap one and chucking it out every year or so.

Gwenick Thu 10-Feb-05 22:28:01

but Misdee - we bought our current furniture from Argos - and both fell completely in love with a table we saw last Saturday in a shop called Lucas in IKEA doesn't ONLY sell furniture (And I buy accesories in Matalan and Wilkinson ).

I was kind of hoping I might find a bed suitable for DS1 in IKEA (we're NOT giving him an expensive bed - and he won't be selling them anyhow -) but didn't like any of them

We also both LOVE Habitat

i love habitat, but its out of my price range, well the stuff i want is anyway lol.

i am currently searching for all pretty girly things for my dd's bedroom, which i am currently in the planning stages of, and have found lots of little girly touches at ikea for them. i love the kids stuff there, as some of it is so 'sensory' and how i think kids rooms should be.

no point buying kids expensive beds, they only jump on them anyway!

Gwenick Thu 10-Feb-05 22:31:49

Heals??? Sorry you've lost me there
