poor poor little boy

I really don't see how you could forget where a 2 year old is??

There were atleast 2 tragic cases, similar to this in Europe last summer.

Report
Hecate · 17/07/2008 19:29

How tragic.

I don't know how you can forget about your child. Especially when both parents are shopping together. Who did they think had him? Shopping and it never occurred to either of them, 'oh, we have a son, he's not here'.

I honestly don't get it. Why get out of the car and go shopping in the first place, leaving your small child in the car? It's one thing to nip into shop/garage for 2 minutes, but a fucking shopping trip??

And I know there'll be a million "Now is not the time to judge, these poor parents have lost their son..." type posts. Yes, they have. And that's sad. The child is dead - more sad for him! And it IS THEIR FAULT!

I agree totally they left him in a car I don't think you can forget about a 2 year old for 3 hours

Yes I am finding the forgetting of your son a little difficult to get my head around.

Horrific, I hope to god they get locked up for a long time. How the hell did they forget about him???

Well you are all believing what you read in the Daily Mail. Do you think the journos really want to write that there were extenuating cicumstances, or that it wasn't that long. No, far better story like this that everyone can really get their teeth into.

Have you ever experienced what journalists are like when they scent that there's been a tragic accident, especially involving a child.

cc21 · 17/07/2008 19:47

The boy is still dead devonblue, police had to break in to get him out...I'd love to know what extenuating circumstances meant the boy was lrft in the car for over 3 hours...

It doesn't say both parents were shopping, it says the father had him, parked up and went shopping. The mother wasn't there.

You'd think passers-by would have done something wouldn't you?

Report
Hecate · 17/07/2008 20:01

You would indeed think that Rhubarb. But they probably thought that the child had only been left for a minute, so unless they hung around for ages, they wouldn't know.

It does say both parents were shopping though. In the first sentence. It says the father parked the car - but it also says both parents are being prosecuted. Why would the mother be prosecuted if the father was the only parent there and in sole charge of the child?

Yes but it's easy to see a child in distress surely? Then again the French do tend to mind their own business, which in this case was clearly the wrong thing to do.

I would have though it very easy, Rhubarb (how the heck are you doing, anyway? ). People do just walk on by though don't they? Every day. It's a sad sad world we live in.

These stories tend to involve a parent with depressive illnesses or a parent who thought they had dropped their child off on the way, etc.

Fucking hell, no excuses whatsoever, should be prosecuted with murder, what parent can forget about their child for 3 hours. Poor poor child, death through dehydration is torture.

When I went to pick up ds from nursery the other day there was a tiny baby in a car seat in the back of a car with no windows open and no sun shade on. The sun was directly shining on the baby who was crying.
The parent was there to pick up an older sibling and must have got chatting or something as the car was there for a while.
I got very irate and was ready to kick off but by the time I'd got back to the car park - the car was leaving.
I wouldn't leave my dog for 2 mins in the car with no window open regardles of the weather!
WTF is wrong with people?

The car might have been airconned

I leave my child in the car when I picked up the other one from nursery and I leave the windows shut for security

When I was at the gym last year another lady (new mum) was using the gym and her mum was sat outside in the car with newborn baby asleep in car seat so her daughter could work out. The baby stopped breathing because he was overheating and had to be revived. All was okay in the end but a huge scare for all involved.

pgwithnumber3 · 17/07/2008 20:28

You have to leave the engine running for the air con to work though morningpaper, I would be loathe to leave my child in car with the keys in the ignition. I too have left DD2 in the car but only to get DD1 from the school door (15 yards away).

Thz father is a pharmacist. Both parents are currently hospitalised in state of shock and police waiting to question them.

Report
cupsoftea · 17/07/2008 20:46

The french press report that the father, a pharmacist, witnessed an accident & then went to work - there's no mention of two parents going shopping. The car was parked under a tree but the windows were closed. It is speculated that he might not have wanted to wake the child whilst he was at work as the car was close to the the pharmacy (this was in just one paper).
