Asda to fine people who abuse disabled and Mother and Baby parking areas.

HURRAH for Asda. May the other supermarkets take note. I get soo fed up with seeing van drivers, childless cars etc parked in Mother and Baby/toddler spaces.

disabled yes, not m&b though that's just silly.

on the radio last night a bloke was saying smugly how he has no trouble using a disabled place if the m&b places are taken.

it's bananas.

a school age child is just as much bother than a baby sometimes. supermarket car parks are very designed badly.

Yes but a school age child doesn't come with a pram that needs folding down and all the other paraphanalia that a baby does. I used to be so grateful for the extra space in the M+B spaces so that I could get DS's carseat back in the car I(always involves the door having to opened that bit wider), sort the shopping out and fold down the pram.
DS is 4 now and I wouldn't dream of using a M+B space simply because I remember all too clearly how much harder it was in those narrower spaces. I used to seethe when I had to struggle in a narrow space if I saw a mother and school aged child blithely get back into a car parked in a M+B space I would have been grateful for. These spaces need to be policed to stop people abusing them.

Why waste of time? I find the mother & baby spaces a Godsend when I can find one to park in.

On the other hand we shouldn't be using supermarkets anyway - shop locally, it's a much nicer experience.

Why are P+T/B spces a waste of time? I found them useful.

I think people who abuse disabled parking bays should be fined , I dont think it is necessary for Mother & baby spaces.

I say this as my Dad has a disabled badge and when I have taking him shopping at his local Asda we can never find anywhere to park.

I have two children both close together in age so have done the Mother & Baby parking but dont see it as necessary to fine.

I love m and t spaces - sorry! I can open the doors without the kids scratching someone else's car, ds has only a short space to negotiate, not a huge car park, and I don't have to lug a trolley back after emptying it, leaving the baby in the car. Yesterday, I wanted to smack some smug cow using the one next to me, without kids, just lazy. Sorry, I'm all for Asda's stand!

BTW, I've alwaysthought you should get a five year m and t permit issued when you get your child benefit notice - at least then shops could formally ask people to move etc, at the moment it's all voluntary. May suggest to Gordon, as obv have nothing better to do.

With the size of cars nowadays all car aprking spaces should be wider, regardless of whether tou have children or agree about size of cars etc etc .

Its a fact of life that people are using bigger cars .

Agree with getting tougher on disabled spaces but not m and t spaces. Would make more sense to me to put m and t spaces further away from the store and then people who didn't need them wouldn't want to use them!


Would like to know who would be brave enough to fine someone who abused the space? Imagine the hassle you could get from some people.

Yep - I would be all for them being moved away from the front of the store to ensure that they are not so attractive to those who are just too bloody lazy to park elsewhere.

I really hope Morrisons follow suit.I'm sick to death of peeps gettin outta their cars in the disabled bays when it's pouring with rain with a hop, skip n a jump while i'm driving around with my girl in a wheelchair tryin to find a space .
When you go to customer services to complain they say they're worried for their staffs safety if they confront these lowlifes AND they don't wanna lose their custom???????????????
But are quite happy to lose the disabled visitors custom? AAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!

It's official - it makes sense! Why do we need to park 2cm from the door if we have kids? We don't. We just need wider spaces.

Yep - most spaces say for parents with children under 5 so I know I could still use the spaces as well. I do find it fairly easy to sort his car seat out and DS has just sorted out how to do up his own seatbelt making it even easier.

The schoolaged children I think most people object to are those who are obviously over 7-8 yrs or even worse teenaged.

I wonder if they really will fine people . Do you think its just an idle threat ? I cant imagine how that would work . People would have excuses ,and they might be good ones ie if a disabled person couldnt find a disabled space and used a m/b one instead. And sometimes people can be really quite ill and frail and still not have a disabled badge etc

5 year P&T parking permit? I think 2 years max. DD is 3 and last Saturday she and I went shopping on the train - we travelled on two different trains, including having to run for our connection. She walked all round Leeds without a pushchair or being carried. Why does she need anything special in terms of parking?

Not sure how fining people would work, but I remember when I first took DS out shopping when he was about 2 weeks, I was so excited and wanted to use a p&t space because of my new mum status . And of course there weren't any. And there usually aren't either, have only been in one once or twice I think, they're usually all full.

Fine anyone in a disabled bay that doesn'[t have a badge £200 IMO. Nothing more to say on that!

With regard to M&T spaces, put the spaces further from the store with a safe pavement down the middle so you can walk with your children with being reversed out on! Many times people have reversed on me as I walked through a car park but a safe pavement down the middle would prevent this.
