ffs....these people. Putting bleach in contact lens solution??!! SO, it's Ok to maim innocent people using a product that the have nothing to do woith the manufacture of, but not to hurt a hamster in the name of medical science?

I know this is very controversial, and I think that unnecessary testing on animals for cosmetics etc should all be banned, but woud I rather a hamster died in order to create a treatment, than my child died because there was no cure??

[ducks below parapet and waits to get shot at]

I'm about to come down there under that parapet with you...

I think that people that take this kind of action are economic terrorists, not animal lovers.

I'm really annoyed too. I had to buy some Savlon for DD's injuries on her face when she got kicked by a horse and I would not have been happy if she'd been scarred for life as a result of some %^&.

Ditto I wouldn't be too happy if I went blind because of some %^&
messing with c/lens solutions I use.

They're going to win a lot of converts with this, aren't they? About time for these tree-hugging fluffy-animal-lovers to wake up and smell the coffee. Of course, all they need to do is suggest that they have contaminated a product, not even do it. Just like the rat poison/Mars bar outrage from 20 years ago. Proves again that terrorism is 90% fear and 10% action.

I remember when they stole that poor womans remains the other year because her Son in Law was breeding hamsters for Huntington Life Sciences, one of them was quoted as saying....

"if the death of one rat could end all human suffering, it would be one rat too many"...

uh....yeah...

let's deny these people any medical treatment that was tested on animals when they get sick...think they might change their minds when staring death in the face?

People who do animal research have to follow very strict standards about animal welfare.

I have never worked in animal research but I know people who do. I was involved with writing computer simulations to reduce the need for animal testing. I have actually been inside an animal testing laboratory.

The standards that the animals are cared for are far better than a lot of pet animals. The rats in question had toys, veternary attention and the chance to socialise. They were cleaned every day and given a good diet. When they were experimented on great care was taken about pain relief.

I do not agree with testing cosemtics on animals, but some things like contact lens solution do need to be tested. I would not want to give an untested medicine to my son.

A lot of pet rats live in extremely poor conditions. Prehaps that is where animal rights people should target their efforts.

Most of these folks are just straight up thugs.

In fact, I've known quite a few vandalising thugs who wouldn't dream of doing something so vile.

I agree with the OP.

Like most fundamentalists, they don't see the apparent contradiction in their actions. Hurting babies/blinding adults to attempt to stop animal testing - right -that's a vote winner then....

In fact I am pretty convinced that the cause of animal testing is more hindered by these attempts than helped. If I see someone campaigning for animal rights I give them a very wide berth because of these loonies.

Am I being thick, or has vivisection for the cosmetics/beauty industry already been banned/outlawed in this country ?

Report
saltire · 30/08/2007 15:08

NDP _ I think it has, but they want to stop animal testing in the name of medical research as well.

In that case they should all volunteer themselves to be tested on

sorry, I was looking at the 3rd para in the OP wrt the cosmetics testing.

As unpleasant as it may be, I do think animal testing for medical research is necessary.

IMHO, these are not people who love animals so much as they are people who dislike people.

Dh is only alive atm, because of animal research. And when he dies, he will be pain free because of animal research.

It is interesting how many people accept the need for animal testing of medical products when they get ill themselves.

Exactly MB, there are many of us on here who have family member alive today because of research into medicines

Report
expatinscotland · 30/08/2007 15:14

Many of us are alive ourselves because of animal research, saltire. Had any vaccines? Had an infection and used certain antibiotics?

These gits should be tossed in jail for a long, long stretch, because UD hit the nail on the head: they are terrorists.

Quite right, rxpat. Or for that matter do you have a pet who has had vaccinations etc.

These arseholes once blew up a Veternary research facility in edinburgh. The facility reaserached into diseases that affected animals in develiping countries, and training vets to work in these areas. How the fuck did the morons who planted the bomb think they were helping animals?

or for that matter helping the people in developing contries who live in poverty made worse by poor animal health!

Arseholes.

You are right expat, I was thinkig of all my family members with diabetes, or my dad having his transplant, or my cousin his heart bypass at age 34. But yes, we are all alive because of it.

One of the head animal activists in Nottingham, is an insulin dependent diabetic.

It rather blows my mind that!

He feels that it is OK for him to use a medicine tested on animals, he just doesm't feel that people who currenetly have incurable conditions should have drugs.

Wanker

Germoline is good.

MB - my dad was told when he got his diabetes that insulin was discovered during testing on dogs and it was a border collie with diabetes that it was first tested on!
Don't know how accurate it is though.
They are all nutters IMO!
