here

I'm glad she's won the case. very frustrating though that these attitudes still exist and that she has now been accused of depriving the council of money by bringing the case to court.

My God that's barbaric! To accuse her of depriving vulnerable people by refusing to be treated like a second class citizen...

I am speechless.

yes it is appaling. She's a very brave woman to stand up to people like that.

This is the bit I think is most sad:

The council say:

"The reputation and dignity of our mayor as our first citizen is important to the council as it is to local people.

We have done and will continue to do our best to uphold the reputation of this civic post."

I.e., according to them breastfeeding is disreputable and undignified.

I don't get it - she wasn't allowed to use the official car because she might have had to breastfeed her son? have to read it again...

i didn't really either, did she use the car to bf in? they probably wouldn't let any mayor even fart in them

it's not very clear but it sounds like the baby wasn't allowed in the car at all.

no but to them it would be like the queen bf in the royal daimler or whatever.

Oh dear, I read that as the queen bf in the royal chamber.

Note to self, get yer eyes retested woman.

It's the snotty self-righteousness of their comment about her depriving vulnerable people that gets to me.
Er, no, they deprived vulnerable people by being discriminatory in the first place and then having been discriminatory failing to notice that their discrimination was actually illegal.

Doesn't this sort of thing make you want to be queen, though, just so you could breastfeed at a state occasion and shock 'em all?

southeastastra · 23/08/2007 20:36

that's probably what it will take

Did you hear that she had to arrive in her own little car (the issue being the car seat I think) but her mayoral chain arrived in the official car on its own and was ceremoniously removed? Rofl!
