Scroll down to the one of Romeo, I can't believe he's only 4

He does look older and doesn't it seem weird that he has short hair now.
Poor lads having to live up to their dad, it must be awful for the kids of high profile achievers, must mean that they have to work twice as hard, there is only a handful of people who have achieved more than their high achiever parents. (That's not worded right, but I hope you get the jist. LOL)

I know what you mean lm!

They might not want to be professional footballers when they get older anyway, but they both look so skilful already - that's what I meant about Romeo really, the way he's about to strike that ball, his positioning looks perfect. (When my kids were 4 they bumbled about and were lucky if they actually kicked the ball instead of falling over it!)

Brooklyn also looks effortlessly athletic. I bet they'll do something sporty!

WW I know what you mean Romeo's positioning looks real good, and if the boys didn't have becks for a da they would be thought as of excellent ball players from the start, know they will have to struggle to even be recognised as good. Becks is so gorgeous. [drool]

two things.
first of all david beckham is not regarded as aone of the top footballers in the world, he was maybe in the top 50 4/5 years ago.
secondly has anyone seen a video of the boys playing?the fact that beckham has moved to america has almost guarenteed that the two will not be professional footballers.

what's [hmmm] about that?
it's true.and that would be at a stretch. he's always been a very good footballer and a model professional, but in ability terms he will never be remembered as a great footballer, good yes but not great.
the truth has always been that the image and the hype around him and his wife has always outstripped his ability.thats why many people who follow football don't like him, as those who don't follow assume he is one of the best in the world due to the amount of press he receives. the truth is that until america he has never been the best player in his own team (man utd or real madrid) let alone one of the best in the world.

I think this blonde crop and the huge sunglasses, `60s shift dresses is the best look she's had. She looks like a little doll in some pictures, much much nicer than those dark extensions she used to have.

With the tan and the natural looking make-up, I think she looks heaps better, the blonde makes her face look softer too. Dunno what's happened to her legs though.

"not a patch on pele or best>."

no one who has ever watched or played one football match in their life would even dream of making the comparison.
those two are regarded as being in the top 2/3 to have played the game ever.
even at the peak of his career beckham was not even the best player in his own team.

Beckham scored a fab goal once from a great distance.

then he had his haircut, wore a skirt and paraded round like something from Vogue with his preying mantis wife.

Since then he has been some kind of icon (to morons)

I dont know anything about football- but I do know that he is no world class footballer. Just a pretty boy with a face for the camera

wikipedia

So he wasn't "twice runner-up for FIFAWorldPlayerofthe_Year"?

Second to Rivaldo in 99 and Figo in 01.

Were they all bowled over by the hairdo? Or was it just political? Do tell.

no he was twice runner up in footballer of the year.but as those who watch or know about football will tell you these kind of awards count for nothing, and as with anything the attention beckham gets is out of proportion with his ability/form. so when he has a good season everyone praises him to death which can translate into individual awards.
in 99 beckham had without a doubt the best season of his career and was still eclipsed by roy keane, paul scholes, ryan giggs, andy cole, dwight yorke and jaap staam in terms of performance. And that is only players from his own team. that year david ginola managed to win the player of the year in england which proves how wrong these polls can get it.i mean how can beckham be the 2nd best player in the world but not the best in england? in 2001 michael owen got voted the best player in europe, while beckham was apparently second best in the world and yet sheringham was voted best in england ahead of both of them.

How are you measuring performance?

My DH is an ex-pro footballer and no doubt there'll be pressure on DS (4) to follow in his footsteps. I reckon it'll be DD who'll carry on the family tradition...already loves a football at age 1!

backing the man here, as self-appointed protector of George Bests legacy.

As GB said of DB, "he can't head the ball, he can't tackle, he cant do anything good with his left foot....." And he's right.

I am one of a dying breed who saw George play. DB, as admirable as he is in other ways (friendly, modest, determined) he is nowhere near the likes of Bestie or Pele, or Cryff even. It's a bit harsh, but yes, he has never been the best in teams he has been in..

Don't know! dd is 7 and is a mean tackler, dribbles round cones...she is part of my pension plan!!

WendyWeber · 21/07/2007 01:23

I'm sure he would never attempt to compare himself with Best or Pele, and I'm not aware that anybody else has. He's a midfielder for a start.

whoops! Seem to have come in half way through..re-reads thread..

ah I see theman responded to a challenge when there wasn't one there....

Well, Pele was a midfielder..and George Best, it is widely understood, could perform adequately at any position..but did spend most time in midfield, on the wing...

Just checked with DS1, who knows a bit about it; he says Pele was a striker, Best was just a genius who ran around and did what he wanted, but that between 99 and 01 Beckham was arguably in the top 5 in the world.

I'd take his opnion over theman's (grammar expert) any day
