We're merging some sections into the Chat area

Hi all,
We’re doing some work on making the Talk boards more useful and user-friendly for both regular and new users. After looking at some stats for the site, we think we could boost activity on the whole by merging some of the lesser used sections.

We’re proposing to fold this section into the general Chat area.

This should increase the number of topics in the section - and hopefully lead to more posts and responses to members.

I think that's a good idea. Stuff in the news tends to be stuff we chat about, after all!

I believe quite a few MNetters only use 2 or three general boards, plus one or two specialist boards.

Although that sounds like I mean 'Niche porn'...😂

I think this is a shame - thus used to be one of the busiest boards (even had an end-of-every-page link for a while).

But I have to agree that the quantity (and for me quality) of political posting in MN has changed significantly in the last decade.

I don't know exactly what you have in mind, but it bothers me that there is comparatively less weight given to serious subjects, like politics, as if women weren't supposed to bother their pretty little heads about such matters.

This really shouldn't go into general chat.

Fold Brexit, politics and In The News into one News section by all means.

But not shove it into a behemoth of 'chat'

Seriously, why don't you make the site more user friendly by moving threads into the correct topic? People will soon get the hang of it!

By all means get rid of some topics - there's blooming hundreds of them! But In The News tends to encourage serious discussion unlike the endless "AIBU to think Trump's state visit is a waste of hard working tax payer's money" type threads.

I welcome the paring down of topics but so far you seem to be wanting to turf out anyone who wants to discuss anything other than babies and young children!

For instance, there's a thread in AIBU today about the 17 year old Dutch girl who chose euthanasia.

Wtf is a thread on that even doing in AIBU? It cheapens the subject. It's embarrassing.
