That's funny. I'll email it to my SIL, she lives nearby. Maybe she'll join in the competition next year, doesn't seem too tough.

I love the fact that she was the only contestant before, 11 years ago, and came third.
She's improving

WendyWeber Thu 05-Jul-07 19:34:00

Obv the above is the title I should have used

WendyWeber Thu 05-Jul-07 19:34:23

This made me laugh loads!

My mum used to enter the local shows in Cornwall, she won 20p for coming first in the Saffron Bun category and a sad 5p for her 3rd in the Cornish pasties.

I always remember the look on her face when they presented her with the envelope with 5p in it...............

SueBaroo Thu 05-Jul-07 20:47:09

Oh, that's fantastic!

She really was second to none..

aw poor thing i loved the quote at the end:

"About 11 years ago I entered a show with some fruit scones. I was the only entrant but I came third."

SSSandy2 Thu 05-Jul-07 20:50:27

hardly worth the envelope for ..........

............................... 5p!

Lisalumps Thu 05-Jul-07 20:51:30

Maybe that was why it was just 5p perhaps the cost of the envelope was factored in.....

'marks for the cooling rack'

Do you think they're the kind of people that fold all their rubbish neatly?

SueBaroo Thu 05-Jul-07 20:53:54

Lisalumps Thu 05-Jul-07 20:54:34

Probably, and iron their socks too.

SSSandy2 Thu 05-Jul-07 20:54:53

and anyway the marks would be UNDERNEATH the cake surely. Do they turn these cakes upside down to check for marks then?

SSSandy2 Thu 05-Jul-07 20:56:16

mind you if they only had one cake, they had plenty of time to turn it around, upside down and discuss its merits thoroughly

SueBaroo Thu 05-Jul-07 20:57:25

It depends how she got it out of tin, doesn't it?
