Toddler fallen down 100m hole and the rescue efforts

I searched but couldn’t find a thread on this. It’s one of the most harrowing news stories I’ve read in a while and I can’t keep my mind off it for long.

Has anyone been following the rescue efforts for the two year old who fell down a 25cm x 100m borehole. I can’t stop thinking about that poor poor family, he fell down last Sunday. They are frantically drilling hoping he may still be alive. His older brother died suddenly of a heart attack aged 3 whilst running on a beach not long ago too.

I can't even imagine the terror of that poor little boy and his parents. This is my worst nightmare. I hope by some miracle he's ok although he'll be severely traumatised if he is. Just horrific

I have been following it, it's just so sad. I didn't realise they have already lost a child Sad

Sadly I can't imagine he's still alive after a week even if he survived the initial fall.

I’m still hoping by some miracle he is alive, dh is trying to gently suggest otherwise. Apparently the new drill won’t be able to reach the area he could be until Monday. I can’t believe the hole wasn’t filled or covered.

I keep thinking of the Thai boys in that cave, but they had water didn’t they. His father heard him crying after he fell but nothing since. And they found the sweets he was holding but no sign of him. I expect you’re right but its too horrific.

Just out for a picnic in the country and then in a second...

The hole is ten inches wide, there won't be much oxygen getting down there.

The spanish news are giving much more details about the geology of
It but my spanish isn’t quite good enough to get my head around it.

Agree, it’s so upsetting.

That's just horrible. Poor boy. I can't even put in words how the parents must feel

It's disgusting that the people who made the hole are not required to/have not complied with safety regulations and securely fenced it off.

That link talks about a possible air pocket or cave underground being the reason they think he could still be alive.

It also says that the hole was not made with the proper licenses and not covered properly. I hope the person/people who bored it can be found

Oh jeepers. I saw this on my FB thread the other day and hoped this thread was saying he was out.

It is unimaginable. All of it.

As that is absolutely tragic. The poor wee soul. His poor parents, can't even imagine what they are going through. I doubt he will have survived the fall.

The person who made it illegally needs to be prosecuted and sent to prison. I hope he is somehow found alive.

Report
Drogosnextwife · 19/01/2019 20:42

Have they been lowering food and water into the hole?

Saw this last week Op - can't believe he's still down there. Poor thing, really hoping for a miracle.

No I don’t think so Drogo.. Fromm what I understand they got to the “bottom” and found his sweets and a hair but not him, and they think he might be further down in an air pocket so they’re drilling as far as they can and then manually digging the rest, which is the time consuming bit

I keep thinking about this poor boy and his family. It reminded me of Jessica McClure in the 1980s who fell down a similar well in her aunts back garden, 18 months old. There is a film about it on amazon prime at the moment, I watched it tonight. My son is the same age now so found it much harder to watch than previous times I've seen it. Fortunately they saved her within 3 days. But from some of the narrative from that film, I just don't see how he could still be alive ☹️ what an absolutely horrendous thing for him to go through. I keep checking for updates but not really getting much information that's changed.

I also remember the Jessica McClure case. But she was "only" trapped for three days plus it was a site where they could get heavy plant onto it relatively easily. Also I dont think she was as far down.

Sadly I cant see a good outcome from this. I can't imagine what his family is going through

We moan about Health and Safety in the UK, but honestly, in some countries it is non existent and this sort of thing happens a lot.
I am on holiday ATM in a country that has very little safety legislation.
A friend here drove into a massive ditch that was completely invisible and not fenced off. The front of her car was smashed to bits. Had she not been wearing a seat belt (she is British so put it on automatically) she would have gone straight through the windscreen.
That poor little child and poor family.

25cm across is tiny, I don't think he can be alive ☹️
