did someone pull the plug out?

TheArmadillo Thu 21-Jun-07 22:03:45

Maybe it was aliens

Very bizarre.

Could they have misplaced it do you think

marymoocow Thu 21-Jun-07 22:05:00

that's where all the rain is coming from

Maybe Benardo O'Higgins came back from dead and drank it?

(Is VERY important in Chiles' history, lots of streets named after him :main Ave in Santiago IIRC)

Seriously,a bit perturbing though, must be linked to Global warming!!

Why does it have to be? Its probably due to undetected geological activity.

Haven't really seen any evidence on this thread or in the article that points to an increase in temperature. The article does say there is a stream which flows out of the lake. Perhaps it continued toflow and nothing melted to replace the level in the lake. Hence, could be global cooling... still not much evidence to support that. But, then, it's not more irrational than jumping to the global warming conclusion.

They think it may be an earthquake that opened up a fissure and the lake only appeared 30 years ago due to other geological activity, so methinks that global warming can't be blamed for this one

Surely if it was global warming the ice wouldn't be lying on the bottom of the now-empty lake?

Very curious!!!

musicianswidowAKAmumofmonsters Fri 22-Jun-07 12:21:28

you can't blame global warming if there is ice in there!

I don't know who Bernardo O Higgins is or what the significance is but sounds likely that its just been absorbed into the ground.

Either that or an enormous, and extremely thirsty, alien drank it

It's the Teletubby lake - the one with the three ships on, and then the water disappears. Dd2 was terrified of that, poor soul.
