Back Pain? Carry on Regardless!

This advice to just keep going and ditch the pain killers with back pain has given me the rage today.
This advice has been around years and was enthusiastically embraced by a hospital trust I used to work at. I was in charge of a bay with a HCA who was advised to work through her bad back. She was white as a sheet and wincing in pain. Completely inappropriate.

I should add that I may be a bit biased as my bad back has flared up again this week. I’ve had it for 20 years. Ive done Pilates to build up core strength and nowadays it rarely bothers me. Digging garden this week and stupidly carried on through warning twinges. I’ve found a full 24 hours off my feet with diazepam to relax the spasms then a few days of being a bit careful sorts it out.
If I was still working the thought of crawling about without painkillers is inconceivable

Remember all those illegal lifts we where trained to do (like the Australian lift) as nursing students? Sure it’s got something to do with my knackered back.

No way could I have gone into work when my discs popped.

Not the slightest chance I could have worked through my bad back. It was the most intense, terrifying pain I have ever experienced. Shooting nerve pain up my spine and down my legs. I would rather have another baby than another back spasm.

Also painkillers were totally irrelevant, didn't touch the sides. Muscle relaxants, heat and total rest were the only thing that helped. The gp said do gentle exercise and take paracetamol hahahaha!

Yes. The Australian lift!
Part of the reason I left hospital nursing was my back!

Squashpocket. That’s exactly how I fix my back. I’ve tried carry on thru. I am no cry baby but it reduced me to a sobbing wreck. Who does this bloody research?

Apologies for abandoning thread. No immediate reply’s. Then Been away for a few days
