Another shooting in us?

It's just popped up on my phone but doesn't seem to be showing up on BBC or sky sites.
Is America likely to actually have an investigation into why so many?

I was just about to start a post. My friend has just told me after seeing it on CNN and it's flashing across the screen on sky news saying " police respond to reports of active gunman at school in florida"

I pray nobody is injured or worse :(

Knocks me sick to think

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2018 20:14

Oh here it is

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2018 20:14

Reported casualties sadly

Fekko · 14/02/2018 20:15

The one in Florida? NBC say it’s not thought to be terrorist related (so just your US common or garden shooting then).

SparklyMagpie · 14/02/2018 20:15

Apparently 20 injured but too early to say yet :(

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2018 20:15

I don't think any of tbe recent ones have been terrorist related have they. Just individuals. But they need to work out why it's happening. Obviously gun access is a huge part of it.

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2018 20:20

Shooter still at large

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2018 20:41

And children barricaded in classrooms. Difficult to tell what the situation is

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2018 21:24

Just seen the pictures of they them leaving the school with hands in the air. Hoping the rest get out soon

StereophonicallyChallenged · 14/02/2018 21:48

Multiple fatalities now being reported.

So fucking sad. Absolutely disgusted that gun laws still not being tackled and still not likely to be.

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2018 21:50

Shit.
I do agree gun access is a huge part of it but there's something else at play too. I don't believe the UK would have the same level of incidents if we had access to guns.
The answer, surely, will be to arm teachers :(

StereophonicallyChallenged · 14/02/2018 22:00

I honestly feel that the (lack of) gun control laws perpetuates the mentality behind these "lone wolf" mass shootings.

This appears to be a kid with a gun (again) and proper gun control would prevent it. An angry teen with a gun is a far greater danger to others than in any other situation. It's sickening.

SparklyMagpie · 14/02/2018 22:01

The shooter is in custody

Atleast 2 dead

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2018 22:06

I think they said he was an ex pupil. So older, possibly much older, than we're thinking

OP posts:
CoolCarrie · 14/02/2018 22:20

If the tragedy of Sandy Hock didn’t change the mentality and attitude of Americans towards gun control, nothing ever will. Most of them think they live in the Wild West!

ThereIsTooMuchConfusion · 14/02/2018 22:24

Says he is 18. I agree gun control has to be improved and also there has to be something else that we/they are missing why so many school shootings is so tragic

StealthPolarBear · 14/02/2018 22:26

Oh right so a very recent pupil then.
I agree. I think there's something about disillusionment or anger that needs addressing. But they won't. They'll arm teachers, and when, God forbid a teacher loses it and shoots someone it'll just escalate from there. I think they do live in the wild west tbh.

The sheer wanton disregard for life is the problem in the USA! where else in the world can anyone buy a gun and a loaf of bread in the same transaction?! Why does Canada not have the same issue?

Catzpyjamas · 14/02/2018 22:35

The BBC reporter said this is the 19th school shooting in the U.S. this year. 19 shootings in 7 weeks. Sad
I cannot imagine living in a country where this happens to school children on such a regular basis.

DorynownotFloundering · 14/02/2018 22:36

20- 50 injured or killed😨😭😭😭

Graphista · 14/02/2018 22:38

So sad and of course I am very sorry for the loved ones of those hurt or even killed.

But this:

"One student evacuated from the school told CBS that Miami students had thought the sound of gunshots was a drill." From bbc page.

Wtf! They're running drills for potential shootings rather than getting rid of the guns! HOW can they not see the insanity of this?

GnotherGnu · 14/02/2018 23:39

Trump has blood on his hands. Yet again.

Graphista · 15/02/2018 00:16

For once I really don't think this is down to trump. USA love affair with guns goes WAY back, gun manufacturing lobby VERY powerful, Obama tried to rein it all in and wasn't able to.

GnotherGnu · 15/02/2018 00:26

Certainly it's not solely down to Trump; but the reason Obama wasn't able to sort this out was precisely because of the resistance of red necks who in their turn are virtually universally Trump supporters - and since his election they feel fully validated by him.

Shadow666 · 15/02/2018 02:44

So many Americans say that guns don’t kill, people do. Do you know how many school shootings there were in the UK this past year? How about Canada? Australia? France? Japan? Belgium? Yet apparently it’s not a gun control problem.

I noted the press mentioned he was red haired with freckles. Once again a mass killing by a white guy.
