I think they may well increase his chances of being PM. I wonder what his views on the death penalty are?

In response to your title: hope so.

Hopefully. I was at university with him. He is an arse. He stood out (even among the other über-public school types) - striding across the quad daily in his 3-piece suit with the Financial Times tucked under his arm. I don't think I ever actually saw him speak to anyone in college (except to accept with some bemusement the pair of jeans that the JCR committee had clubbed together to buy him Grin).

I don't think it will, unfortunately. Sad His chances of being PM were not that high to begin with so he has not much to lose, and the kind of people who liked him before are unlikely to care much about this - either because they agree with him, or because they think his personal views are irrelevant as long as he keeps up the funny "charming", owlish, Bertie Wooster persona. It will raise his profile yet further, and he will get credit from many for being "honest" and "standing up to liberalism and the pc agenda" etc.

Yes. The he's too conservative even for the tory party.

It was always going to happen after Tim Farron was hammered by this issue. He did the only thing he could do - was open about his personal views.

And it was an incredible sight - seeing a politician who is being 100% honest. I don't agree with his views on Abortion (nor religion), but I can respect that he has those views.

If he were to become leader of the Tory party (they are bricking it at the moment - lots of new members joining Smile) I could at least vote for/against him whilst being 100% sure of what he stands for. He hasn't lost a single supporter by making his stance clear to be honest.

To be fair, we the public criticise politicians for not speaking their mind and then them when they do.at least we know what he believes in, unlike thereasa May whose views on anything are on unknown.

WTF is wrong with the world?

I never believed for a second that Trump would be president.

I would like to think that the UK population is a little more rational than the USA's was and won't set us back a good 50 years by voting him and his extreme views in.

Leader of the Tories, yes. PM, no.

What a pile of crap. Just because someone has expressed extreme views it doesn't make them "refreshing" or any more honest than you or me. You might just as well vote for Katy Hopkins.

Yeah, isn't it great that he's honest about his abhorrent views? And he's funny on HIGNFY. Definite PM material.

He also said that while he doesn't agree with the generally accepted views he wouldn't change the laws just to suit him. He appears to be unusual for a politician these days - he respects democracy.

Conservative members only get to vote if two candidates are left standing after the MPs reduce the field (if there is one) by voting first. JRM may not get enough support amongst Conservstive MPs to get in the final ballot paper so the membership may never get a chance to express an opinion.

He talks out bills he doesn't like. He is the antidote to democracy.

I think he's Tory party dream to convince back benchers to stick with May(hem), as the lesser of two evils, to see Brexit out without a revolt.
Just an idea.

Did he ever have a realistic chance of PM?
Yes I think this will scupper it.

I agree with him on these two issues, but virtually nothing else.

The advantage of an honest politician/political candidate is that you know who you are voting/not voting for. I would always prefer that to politicians who never actually say what they think.
