This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

Lastly, here are some hopefully useful reference points of facts surrounding the case.

I suspect that lots of you have posted on the GOSH page, I am going over there for now.

ChristopherWren · 22/07/2017 21:01

I really think a total media blackout on this case is what is needed. For Charlie's sake.

Pomegranatepompom · 22/07/2017 21:01

It was a good post friendly

Lots of posts on CA now saying that that parents have had threats too. Don't think this has been mentioned before?

GabsAlot · 22/07/2017 21:03

i missd it friendly but yes i have postd on the comments page

I think CY mentioned earlier in the week that they'd had some very unpleasant messages. Can't remember her exact wording.

The aggressive mob mentality is awful, wherever it stems from and whoever it is aimed at. Bloody thugs.

TheFairyCaravan · 22/07/2017 21:05

Thanks Gabs.

I'm reading the GOSH Fb page atm. There's a lot of people in denial from CA posting on there.

MrGrumpy01 · 22/07/2017 21:05

I would be surprised if they had received threats akin to what GOSH staff have received but I expect they have received quite nasty messages.

Do find the 'it isn't us' posts interesting. Least someone has pointed it out on there she has seen posts naming doctors etc

Marking my spot. Thanks for the new thread.

NellieBuff · 22/07/2017 21:07

I posted support for GOSH. MNHQ will probably delete this but I have no sympathy for CY after posting that message on the GOSH FB page. The tone and language used was inappropriate.

When my daughter was terminally ill the last thing on my mind was posting on social media

Alfieisnoisy · 22/07/2017 21:08

Terrible if the parents are receiving threats too.Sad

Pomegranatepompom · 22/07/2017 21:08

I'd be surprised if they had received nasty messages, the posts I've seen which disagree with the parents actions have all been fairly balanced, sympathetic and fair.

Nquartz · 22/07/2017 21:09

I can't read the comments on the GOSH Facebook page, its just going round & round. I really hope Tuesday is the end one way or the other.

RitaMills · 22/07/2017 21:09

I can't believe how many posts have been deleted on the last thread, MN definitely getting stricter. Confused

I'm not Facebook but it's gone quite quiet on the twitter front with the GOSH bashing/CA support, not silent but quieter. I'm hoping this was the little wake up call they needed to rein it in a bit with the nastiness and lies, and not just because it's Saturday night. It shouldn't have got to this stage in the first place.

Pomegranatepompom · 22/07/2017 21:10

Which is right of course, I didn't mean that to sound negative. I don't feel the parents should get any nasty messages of course.

However, I do feel they could have stopped vileness towards GOSH.

GabsAlot · 22/07/2017 21:10

so pleasd people are sticking up for gosh

Nquartz · 22/07/2017 21:13

Pom I don't think I would be surprised, people seem to be getting very angry on the side of GOSH, some of the comments on the news articles are very harsh.
Being in the spotlight is very much a double edged sword, initially I believe it was all about fundraising but once you invite people in you can't control what happens next unfortunately

MrGrumpy01 · 22/07/2017 21:15

I would be very surprised if they hadn't received nasty messages. A troll is a troll afterall and rarely cares about or believes what they write. It is all about the effect.
