Tess gets less than claudia for basically the same job imagine if you were paid less than the person standing next to you and is Chris Evans really worth more than Graham Norton. I think a lot of people will care.

So Claudia gets more than Tess Daly? Apart from CW, women seem underpaid. CW seems overpaid! Clearly some men are overpaid, Jeremy Vine for example. I am surprised at Claire Balding, Gabby Logan and Fiona Bruce being at the lower end. John Inverdale? Why is he so high-up?

I do think this should have remained confidential because the BBC has to compete with other stations. It is not like the Army, Judges, MPs etc who are not competing with private companies. This should have remained private.

I am actually shocked at how much some of them get paid.
Why does Naga get paid so much less than Dan walker?

You should care BBC is publicly funded

I care - do you really think these people are worth what they are paid because I don't.

Report
AgentProvocateur · 19/07/2017 14:31

I don't think they're worth it, but I also think two people getting paid differently for the same job isn't unusual. It's down to how good you are at negotiating before you sign the contract.

Claudia does Strictly, her radio show and the Film show. Tess Only does striclty (assuming she doesnt get paid for children in need). Obviously Claudia gets paid more, she's doing more work.

I care.

Why are sports presenters (overwhelmingly male) paid so much?

Why do Len and Bruno get more than Darcy and Craig? Do they do something extra or something?

Fair enough Redcrayons didn't know claudia was on radio. Is chris Evans really worth over 2 million quid a year though

In N Korea, newsreaders are paid 20x avg salary to broadcast propaganda. If you don't pay for this, it's prison. My mistake, that's the UK.

I'm not in the UK but the one thing that jumped out at me was just how much Chris Evans is being paid. O.M.G!!! He was dire at presenting Top Gear so why is he being paid so much? Is his contract written in such a way that it would cost the BBC more to get rid of him than it would to keep him on the payroll???

In answer to your question OP, who cares? Well, if I were in the UK and I had to pay for a TV license and those funds went to the BBC, I'd want to know. Also, if I happened to work for the BBC as a woman, I'd be very interested in learning how much my male colleagues were being paid to do the exact same job as me (i.e. presenting).

I care! Its public money! These people are not worth such bloated salaries! Its ludicrous.

How can some people rage about how low nurses's wages are but shrug their shoulders at how much some twat on tv earns!

Chris Evans ratings are probably some of the highest in the nation if he worked for similar that had advertising he would be probably paid far in excess of what he's paid now.

If the BBC refused to pay its talent the going rates they would soon find themselves with no-one to work with.

Too be honest, Id be more concerned at the amount of middle management in the BBC in that regard it seems extremely bloated.

I thought he stepped down after that Kids Company business.

because its a free market. If someone is willing to pay an entertainer x amount of money its because the company believes he or she is worth it.

The government control public sector pay. I value the contribution of a nurse more than a radio DJ. I'll campaign for better public sector pay but I'm not campaigning for an entertainer to have his pay lowered as the two things aren't related and I'm not engaging in the politics of envy.

I care very much that the highest paid female on the BBC is paid just ONE QUARTER of the highest paid male, and that this trend seems to be continued down the line.

How fucking depressing in 2017.

I don't care about the headline figures, but I do care very much that women doing ostensibly the same job as men are getting nowhere near the same pay. That's what the big issue is.

Report
bemusedbewildered · 19/07/2017 18:57

the BBC needs to publish some defence here: top gear hugely lucrative, Evans is paid that much due to being the new face of it. Sports presenters are paid more because sports earns more for the BBC and is more popular.

It's also not just about having the same job, wages are also partly a reflection of how well a programme could cope without a particular presenter - strictly clearly feels CW would be a bigger loss than TD.

I think that the people who are underpaid is most shocking. Claire Balding/Moira Stewart (!!)
