That made me smile

Funny - not one word of congratulation either for Connolly or J. K. Rowling. Don't suppose their stance on independence has anything to do with it.

redshoeblueshoe Sat 17-Jun-17 17:25:15

Well cd I congratulate the pair of them. I hope I'm not alone

PacificDogwod Sat 17-Jun-17 17:27:09

It made me snarf grin

I wish I could have witnessed his immediate reaction to the news....

Sir BigYin, I salute you thanks

PacificDogwod Sat 17-Jun-17 17:27:41

Oh, JK too?
Marvellous thanks

Nyx Sat 17-Jun-17 19:38:07

Not one word of congratulations where, cd? I'm sure there will be plenty. We just found out today, didn't we? Congratulations to them both from me anyway.

BC is a legend! Love him!

Maudlinmaud Sat 17-Jun-17 20:20:40

I saw BC talking about it on BBC news. He's a wee dote. I love him so much.

Thourghly deserved knighthood and he should of had one years ago. Billy connolly is an absolute treasure to scotland

PacificDogwod Sat 17-Jun-17 20:27:52

I agree, his honour was a wee bit overdue.
I wonder what he made of it....? grin

TheGirlOnTheLanding Sat 17-Jun-17 20:28:01

Proper national treasure. If you can get it outside Scotland, I recommend the recent BBC Scotland programme 'Billy Connolly: Portrait of a Lifetime' about the three huge murals of him that Glasgow got in honour of his 75th birthday. Funny and moving and altogether very lovely telly.

dementedma Sat 17-Jun-17 20:32:58

Good for him. Way more deserved than an OBE for that torn faced harpy Judy Murray whose claim to fame is giving birth to two sons who turned out to be good at tennis!

Justmadeperfectflapjacks Sat 17-Jun-17 20:36:31

Saw Billy live once - had sore sides for days. . A true comedian.
Arise Sir Big Yin. .

"Way more deserved than an OBE for that torn faced harpy Judy Murray whose claim to fame is giving birth to two sons who turned out to be good at tennis!"

She was their coach... wee bit more to do with her than just giving birth to them.

I don't particular care for her either way, but that description of her seems a bit unwarranted.

Maudlinmaud Sat 17-Jun-17 20:42:14

Pacific he said he felt embarrassed, but I think that's because he's humble.

BandeauSally Sat 17-Jun-17 20:44:28

Brilliant news! Congratulations billy! It was well overdue.

PacificDogwod Sat 17-Jun-17 21:53:34

Just watched the BBC Scotland documentary - lovely, just lovely smile

I know want photographs of those 3 portraits blown up to ginormous sizes on Glaswegian buildings.
Does anybody know their location??
One looks like it was behind St Enoch's Centre... <dons Deerstalker hat>

I take it you have no idea how active Judy Murray is in trying to get young kids, particularly girls into playing tennis? She also was GB's Fed Cup captain until recently.

Sanscollier Mon 19-Jun-17 10:05:31

What a horrible thing to say DementedMa.

A family member who is involved in children's tennis coaching has met Judy Murray several times and she is not a torn faced harpy at all, rather the reverse. She found her to be cheerful, professional , positive, personable, and very down to earth. And as Trixy says she does a huge amount for British tennis. Also, you have to do way more than "just give birth" to your dc for them to become elite athletes playing sport at the highest level - you basically give up your own life for them - the selflessness and dedication required is unbelievable.
