They were outside but now the crowds have all entered the civic centre town hall

I am not surprised that this is happening

All the relatives and friends just want help and the council to answer their questions

You sound like you are relishing in the idea of there being mass civil unrest

I'm watching this - understandable emotion but surely they must know that no answers can be given until at the very least the emergency services can get inside the building let alone find and remove the remains of the dead?

HmmOh please, no one is 'relishing' anything. Given the circumstances it really isn't surprising that this is happening and its normal to want to discuss it.

What answers are they expecting to get? The building is unsafe in parts to be searched at the moment, so it will take longer than anyone wants to find out the information.

I'm not surprised. Media, celebrities, are going out of their way to stoke everybody up. It's a melting pot being stirred. Such a sad situation.

Those poor people.

Their anger is completely justified, they have been ignored, othered and tossed aside. Then burnt.

There is a lot of rage in the country right now. It's palpable to n my council estate. It wouldn't take much to ignite it.

I just hope it doesn't spill over into something everyone would regret.

I'm not surprised. Those people have been dismissed and let down so badly.

But the media is stoking up rage and blame' and focusing it on politicians. Don't get me wrong, ultimately politicians hold the can but this is a bigger issue than 'rich people can't be bothered to care about poor peope'.

Please please please may it stay peaceful.

The authorities have handled this so badly.

It's tragic.

I am very sorry for starting this thread I have asked MN HQ for it to be deleted

I didn't write it very well

I was just reporting what I was watching

They want answers about their housing not the identifying the people still in the tower cos they were told earlier it will be many weeks for that to happen

It is absolutely about rich people not giving a shit about the poor.

There is no bigger issue, this is generally what it all boils down to.

Profits over people.

And now women have had to cuddle their screaming children as they die in an inferno, that or throw them out of the window.

Heard it on the radio. I understand their hurt and rage but their questions /demands are completely unreasonable. How can they demand specifics about who has died when it's unknown information? The media are stoking this up and blatantly enjoying the growth of the story. There's clearly a case to be answered but harassing and scaring public employees absolutely isn't the way to get results. If the media would back off perhaps the community could have a chance to organise and regroup without the violence which is looking increasingly inevitable.

Of course, they want answers. They are being ignored by everyone apart from the media and the celebs that show up for interviews. Everything that is being done, including emergency housing, is being done by the community. Wouldn't you want to know where the council are?
The survivors need help now. Not in months to come when investigations have been carried out.
People have been made homeless, have lost everything, have lost family and friends, who will be in shock.
People want to know why the tenant's concerns were ignored. They want to know why the carpark was redesigned last year and this impeded the fire trucks getting closer.
They want answers.

louise55 · 16/06/2017 16:44

Of course they are distressed but the lady on the microphone at the moment is blaming the police??

Report
Theresnonamesleft · 16/06/2017 16:47

There was an interview earlier with an eye witness who said she has video footage showing the police telling people to stay in the building. This is why the police are being blamed.

I don't think that is true. I saw on the news the council were sending housing officers down to the community centres to process people there as soon as possible and to make sure they have all their details.

The council aren't PR-ing their work as much as the community are, but that would be highly inappropriate anyway
It doesn't mean it isn't happening though
Just because the council aren't releasing videos on twitter saying how many people they've helped today doesn't mean it isn't happening

I agree with PPs that they media are whipping the poor victims up into a frenzy for their own means, and it isn't helping anyone

They have lost everything.

They have been ignored, belittled and threatened with legal action for years. They warned about this and their concerns were brushed aside.

And now their lives loved ones are dead - quite possibly for the sake of saving £5000.

How people can expect calm, rational behaviour from them is beyond me.
