The Queen visits those injured in Manchester

She's made the effort to visit those injured but she is not warm. It's a bit stilted.
Nothing like the warmth / empathy of Harry and William.

I still rather wake up and find her by my bedside than Fucking Theresa Fucking May.

She's done the right thing.

My DS asked me at dinner 'How would you react if you woke up in hospital and saw your parents talking to the Queen about some pop singer?'

I say formal you say stilted. Give the woman a break

She's an old lady visiting teenagers, how much do you think they have to chat about? I did love reading that she apparently likes Arianna Grande though Grin Well done to the queen for getting off her backside and visiting, it would have meant a lot to the staff I imagine too. I know someone who works at one of the hospitals who returned from their holiday to help and hasn't stopped since.

I say formal you say stilted.

I agree with this. Plus - she is 91. 91. She's travelled a bloody long way to be there. She could have asked William or Harry to deputise for her, but chose to be there herself. That, I think, says a lot.

I think she did the right thing in going.

Wasn't it once reported that one regret of her reign was not visiting Aberfan immediately after (having followed p advice that a royal visit would only get in the way)?

Remember only a tiny fraction of the visit was on camera.

And sending the most senior royal there is, is a mark of respect in itself. Younger royals might follow.

Bless her.

Like PPs have said, she's 91 - she's a proper old granny, with nothing remotely in common with teenage girls Grin

She's lovely.

Those poor kids - they've just been blown up and seen things no child should ever see. Do you really think they were sat in their beds today thinking they'd much rather have Harry and Willian visit them. Of course not. Riddiculous thing to say.

FFS she's 91 and made an effort perhaps just perhaps the medical staff were pleased to be thanked and the kids pleased that she bothered.

If you don't like her OP l image it's possibly to interpret anything she does negatively.

It's also highly unlikely, if that's your mindframe, that anything anyone says to you to the contrary of your interpretation of her actions will make any difference. But I'm interested to hear how you think a 91 year old woman could visit the hospital beds of recently injured teenagers better than she did.

She is a mother a grandmother and a great grandmother and when she sees the injured children she probably wants to have a good cry but she can't she is the queen brought up in a different time
So she probably deals with her emotions the best way she can
The younger royals are different brought up in a more relaxed way

She can't win bless her. I hope that if I get to the age of 91 I will still be able to engage. The children's parents will remember the visit I am sure of that.

Let's put it that way.

91 year old great grandmother travels hundreds of miles to visit injured kids.

Now do you see how much of an arsehole you sound OP?

Oh ffs! The photos I've seen show a seriously old lady standing and walking around a hospital, smiling and making conversation with people who've been through hell. It looks like it went very well.

I'm no monarchist, but the queen is 91. She is a very elderly lady with a hectic schedule and I think she does incredibly well to get around as much as she does. It is to her great credit that she made the effort to visit the injured young people in Manchester, and I'm sure that it was a comfort for some of them. Sure, she doesn't have the natural warmth and easygoing charm that, say, Prince Harry has, but I doubt she finds it that easy to chat to teenagers at her age. At least she made the effort.

Report
BlondieJ · 25/05/2017 19:06

I think she kept the conversation light, she didn't want to say to the young girls "so what you saw and went through must have been awful!" She ~rightly so~ didn't want them to dwell on the horror, just about getting better.
And like many others have said, she's 91... my grandma doesn't have a clue who Ariana Grande is, or have much to talk to teenagers about!

It's a mark of respect that she visited herself and while I am not a monarchist I accord her the same respect in return that she bothered to do that.

Jeez give her break.

What exactly did you expect her to do OP?

Report
Gileswithachainsaw · 25/05/2017 19:10

I think she did really well tbh.

Travelling and walking round a hospital and greeting numerous people would take it out of me for sure and she's alot alot older than me.

She must be exhausted. Says alot she went.

I was not implying William and Harry should have gone.
I appreciate she is 91.
I think it was good she went to visit the injured.
I just thought it didn't come naturally to her.
I so rarely get to see early evening news.

Dons hard hat and runs.

I saw the part where she was talking to a mother who was injured by shrapnel and due to have an operation this afternoon. i think she will have appreciated that the Queen had been to visit.
