I can't believe he's actually done it, these changes are happening so fast, even green card holders are not allowed to reenter the country if they leave.

But muslims from Saudi Arabia are fine? hmm

GrumpyOldBag Sat 28-Jan-17 16:29:08

deeply shocking.

I don't understand how an order like this can be carried out so quickly without any discussion in Congress?

PastysPrincess Sat 28-Jan-17 16:31:15

I have no words for this. It's sickening.

bananaleaves Sat 28-Jan-17 16:33:31

I want a Trump supporter to explain to me how this can be right or moral in any way.

Out2pasture Sat 28-Jan-17 16:34:58

It's a 90 DAY ban while they upgrade vetting and security screening 90 DAYS.

kawla Sat 28-Jan-17 16:35:09

As a British Libyan who also is Muslim, I have fears that maybe this will also happen here.

After Brexit and Trump, it's hard to guess what's going to happen.

kawla Sat 28-Jan-17 16:36:43

OP, Saudi Arabia and any other oil rich country that has oil deals with the USA won't ever be banned...

bluejelly Sat 28-Jan-17 16:37:39

I am in despair at Trump. He has no morals. And our PM holding his hand!

ErrolTheDragon Sat 28-Jan-17 16:38:53

I have fears that maybe this will also happen here.

This is a parliamentary democracy, thank goodness.

tribpot Sat 28-Jan-17 16:52:32

Why would they need to include green card holders in a ban whilst upgrading vetting procedures? They've already been vetted.

The fact that the ban does not include Saudi Arabia speaks volumes, given the majority of the 9/11 terrorists were from there and the Executive Order specifically mentions that attack.

Grumpy, the President can issue Executive Orders mainly aimed at directing the federal agencies and what they do. I'm also very disturbed by the fact that Congress don't seem to be able to challenge one before it goes into effect, although they can then be overturned by the Supreme Court.

It is said to be temporary measure, but that's how all these things start. They say it's temporary while they get new laws in place or whatever, but it's really just to test whether people will stand for it before moving on with something more draconian. It's very frightening and it's very concerning that Mrs May refused to answer questions about it. I hope that Mrs Merkel turns out to be made of sterner stuff. Can't see her holding his hand somehow.

msrisotto Sat 28-Jan-17 16:53:54

He's fucking disgusting and the whole party are despicable for allowing this. Argh.

HateSummer Sat 28-Jan-17 16:56:45

It's a 90 DAY ban while they upgrade vetting and security screening 90 DAYS.

So how come countries like Saudi arent banned but have a strict vetting system already?!

He's a cunt. He's not even a cunt. He's a fucking vile demon.

EatSpamAmandaLamb Sat 28-Jan-17 17:02:31

Wasn't America founded on religious freedoms? Seemingly only the freedom to be Christian need apply now.

Out2pasture Sat 28-Jan-17 18:05:53

Would the above NYT article not be considered deliberate misrepresenting the story as this is only a temporary measure.
If any other country stopped working on immigration documentation while it worked on a new computer upgrade would it get the same trashing?
Obviously a group of USA citizens want improved boarder security.

ivykaty44 Sat 28-Jan-17 18:08:47

Sit and weep but remember that we have a PM that wants to hold his hand next time you vote

Abraiid2 Sat 28-Jan-17 18:12:07

Ivy, what's she supposed to do? We have left or are leaving the EU. We need to sell our goods and services to keep our economy afloat. Who would you like us to sell them to if not the EU? It is horrid but what choice is there?

ivykaty44 Sat 28-Jan-17 19:55:14

Sell herself to the mysoginistic president isn't what she supposed do. Trump doesn't want imports, thus the 35% taxes on imports that he wants

originalmavis Sat 28-Jan-17 20:00:01

I understand Saudi - rich oil counrty but by his wharped little logic, shouldn't Pakistan be on his list? Wasn't the wife in the husband and wife shooters from Pakistan? Or Chechen like the Boston bombers?

Has the orange one explained?

DeviTheGaelet Sat 28-Jan-17 20:00:06

WTF out? Yes any country that banned a certain group from entering for 3 MONTHS even if they had been living there for a while would be trashed.
Cannot actually believe anyone thinks this is OK. It's so close to the Jews register.
I despair, I really do sad

TheElementsSong Sat 28-Jan-17 20:01:13

only a temporary measure

Well that makes it all completely fine and dandy then.

So if, whilst I was permanently resident in a country (with a job, and a family, and bills and a mortgage to pay) happened to travel abroad briefly for whatever reason, it would be totally reasonable to prevent me from returning home (because that's what permanent residence means) for up to 3 months? What happens to my job, my family, my bills to pay?

Figure17a Sat 28-Jan-17 20:06:08

I think, politically in the US, this will do him no harm at all. I also think Mrs May knows what she's doing politically by aligning herself with him. Sadly, I think there are huge numbers of people in the UK who will be saying "we" should do the same.

Blair then Cameron caused all this IMO by creating an environment where it was racist to even discuss immigration. It is a big problem for many poor communities in US & UK. It should have been dealt with properly years ago, rather than nice MC people pretending the country could afford to keep taking so many people as long as they didn't live next door or fill their schools

I think the current US policy is abhorrent but I'm sure there are large numbers who think it makes sense, which of course is why we have the current leaders in both countries.
