How To Stop Wars by ds, age 3

He has obviously given this a lot of thought today and said very seriously to me:

"Mummy, we have to stop people having wars."

"Yes, I think so too. How can we do it?"

"We'll get a big massive sharp sword and poke them all with it until they stop."

Hey, has he been listening to GWB somehow?

Perfect 3 year old logic, bless him.

He has some other ideas:

"Distract them all so they forget about fighting."

"How?"

"Do some tricks and jokes and things to make them laugh."

Ah, see, that sounds more like your parenting style. More than 'poke them with a sword until they behave' does, anyway.

Ok, well here's one that sounds even more like me:

"We'll keep telling them and telling them and telling them until they just give up and stop."

Is that your style with DS? Or with DP?

Actually, I think the distract is the parenting style everyone tries for, and the telling them and telling them is where we all end up.

my ds age 4 doesn't know what a war is.

My dd aged 4.5 has no concept of war...

Sorry to be all serious on a light hearted thread but when I think about all the 4.5 yr olds in the world who know nothing but war, I'm so conscious of how lucky we are in the UK really.

Ahem. I think Frances' DS is so much aware of war because of my DS1.

DS1 does often ask questions like 'we're not having a war now, are we?' to which I have to answer 'well, erm, um, yes, we are '

Ah, I think it's mostly because he is obsessed with Romans and the story of Boudicca etc

and because I have told him I don't like toy guns because people use guns in real wars and people really get hurt
