Whilst I'm not surprised (there have been rumours about his extra marital behaviour for a while) I do feel for his family. Waking up to conclusive proof that he not only had sex but unprotected sex is beyond awful. He's an complete w*er.

And he is currently on the committee in charge of changing the prostitution laws (or similar - I'm v tired!!)

Totally agree, how difficult for his wife and children

Yes, think it was the Home Affairs Select Committee. Madness. He stood down last night apparently

I'm not surprised he stood down. Using prostitutes (and not paying much by the sound of it) and providing poppers too.

There's a post on my FB feed saying how disgraceful it is that he's been outed and it's no one's business who he has sex with, but he just doesn't seem to be very popular with people so I don't think there's much sympathy for him.

That (gay relationship, and on the side) is going to be received especially badly in his constituency. I won't be surprised if he has to stand down completely.

His poor wife and children. I hope she leaves him.

His sexuality isn't the issue (well not to me!) but the fact he's using prostitutes! That is a big deal and needs to be bought to the attention of his constituents. Plus - the committee he's part of is currently discussing changes to prostitution laws!

oh yeah... how could I overlook the prozzie aspect? There are so many opportunities to find it all offensive.

Why is this story not on the BBC, Sky News or Guardian websites yet? Isn't that a bit odd?

Not saying it's not true btw, just don't understand why they aren't reporting it.

He also admitted he didint use a condom with one prostitute. I bet his wife is petrified.

It's on the Radio 4 news Pokemon. It's strange if it's not on Sky though. Very fishy.

Media ethics- a whole other thread!

It's on the BBC website now but all in the language of "The Sunday Mirror claims...".

Most media outlets don't report news anymore, they make and spin it.
This story is left field and of course Vaz is media lovvee especially with the Guardian, they just don't know how to spin it.
Anyway like you said Pokemon, that's a whole other thread.

Ironically from the Observer back in April 2015,
Keith Vaz helped kill a 90s probe into the Greville Janner claims: why is he silent now?
Well I think we know now Hmm

It's not unheard of for a shocking front page Sunday exclusive to end up with a huge libel award when they can't make it stand up in court. The Mirror obviously knew they had decent evidence because it was their story, but I can understand why other news organisations, starting from scratch, would want to be very careful about checking evidence before republishing something so hot. Bear in mind that "The Sunday Mirror has said X, which may or may not be true" can still land you with a huge libel bill.

Vazeline has resigned saying

"I am genuinely sorry for the hurt and distress that has been caused by my actions, in particular to my wife and children.

"I will be informing the Committee on Tuesday of my intention to stand aside from chairing the sessions of the Committee with immediate effect."

They are always sorry when caught.
The odious fucker gets his at last.
Another thorn in May's side removed, very good.

Vas has got away with so much over the years, it is wonderful to finally see his downfall - I suspect this is only the beginning.

The arrogance and sheer hypocrisy of some of those in public office never fails to astonish me.

Good. Keith Vaz has been under suspicion for corrupt practices throughout his political career and was suspended for one month in 2002 for suspect financial dealings and false allegations against a policewoman. Why on earth Harriet Harman recommended him for the chairmanship of the Home Affairs Select Committee in 2007 I do not understand, nor why he was re-elected in 2015.
A great deal more about his business affairs, and those of his wife, who has been involved in the past, is likely to be revealed now.

Report
GiddyOnZackHunt · 04/09/2016 11:51

I was always surprised that he'd come back so easily from a previous suspension (might have been the false allegations) to be such a senior MP.
