I can't see if there is another thread on this, but I felt I should start one. All four members of the young British band Viola Beach and their manager have tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Sweden. Absolutely terrible. They were up an coming, and all so young. Condolences to their families and friends. Just devastating.

So incredibly sad. Four young lads on the cusp of living their dream on their first gig outside the UK.

I wasn't familiar with their music, but such a tragic loss.

Heartbreaking for their families and friends.

Absolutely tragic event. RIP and condolences to all their families and friends.

ALemonyPea · 14/02/2016 20:16

Saw this on the news earlier, although never heard of the band, the car looked awful and I can only imagine how upset seeing that would be for their families. So tragic.

sportinguista · 15/02/2016 07:25

Feel so sorry for their families and friends, it must feel like having your heart ripped out. They seemed bright young men who were enjoying their lives and doing something wonderful.

It is hugely tragic. RIP.

StealthPolarBear · 15/02/2016 07:28

That was exactly the first thing I thought when I saw the photo. They looked so young. It's such a waste of life.

MrsJamin · 15/02/2016 07:38

This is something that would have happened at some point, to some band. They are under such pressure to play as many gigs as possible that hardly pay anything, and there isn't enough money to pay for places to stay, convenient transport, so silly decisions are taken to cut corners and drive back at stupid o'clock rather than stay over and drive back in the light. So so many bands make exactly the same crazy decisions, this band were the unlucky ones. Sad a shame there's not more money in the music industry these days so these kinds of things don't happen.

Samcro · 15/02/2016 07:48

i felt so sad seeing this on the news, , the poor families

specialsubject · 15/02/2016 12:24

this is very sad - there were five fatalities as the manager was also in the car.

if the eyewitness accounts are correct, it wasn't to do with late hours though. But we will probably never know for sure.

terrible waste of five young lives.

MyKingdomForBrie · 15/02/2016 12:25

Such an odd circumstance though, from the eyewitness accounts, it really seems inexplicable what happened. Maybe this will prompt the gov't there to put a more solid barrier that you can't actually drive straight through.. Hopefully.

MissFlight · 15/02/2016 12:25

Very tragic, thoughts with friends and family.

specialsubject · 15/02/2016 15:17

any barrier that solid could well kill on impact anyway. Or bounce the car back into others and injure/kill them.

There's only so much that can be done. An investigation has started - if it was a car fault then that certainly needs to be found out.

poppiesanddaisies · 15/02/2016 23:00

This is really upsetting: it's quite local to me and has obviously been all over local newstations.

I am just so sorry for their families. They must be absolutely heartbroken, and I just hope reading the tributes helps. By all accounts they were really lovely young men.

NewLife4Me · 15/02/2016 23:08

I was wondering when it would be on the news, my dh told me last night.

Weren't they from Warrington?
Such a shame, so sorry for their families, may they RIP

poppiesanddaisies · 15/02/2016 23:09

They were, yes Sad

ladygracie · 15/02/2016 23:10

It was on the news all day yesterday. So very very sad.

OhYouLuckyDuck · 16/02/2016 15:03

It's tragic, such young lives and with all that potential.

bruffin · 17/02/2016 09:09

It's so sad,so sorry for their families. RIP
DD said she had been searching for tickets for them on Friday,so they were obviously on the brink of success.
a shame there's not more money in the music industry these days so these kinds of things don't happen.
I dont think money has anything to do with it, think of the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Big Bopper and Richie Valens, or the Bucks Fizz crash.

Movingonmymind · 19/02/2016 10:45

RIP indeed for any death.

However, this is not something that happened "to them" like a plane crash, the driver (who was in control of their destiny and caused their deaths), according to witness statements, overtook stationary cars lined up waiting at the bridge and drove through 2 barriers. The driver killed innocent passengers and could have taken out innocent people in those waiting cars also. They're testing for intoxication in the blood. It is very sad that they died but so many innocent people are killed each day by reckless drivers, statistically much more likely to be young men such as these, that I object to any hero worshipping of them, personally.

OhYouLuckyDuck · 19/02/2016 15:17

moving it's something that happened to four of them, and for all we know it's something, like mental health issues, that caused it to happen to the driver. It's very sad, as is the sad death of anybody in those circumstances.

Movingonmymind · 19/02/2016 15:21

Of course it's sad, but as with most accidents it is much more likely to be due to excessive speed/carelessness- in this case utter recklessness - plus alcohol/drugs. There are several eye witness accounts of them speeding past to overtake a stationary line of traffic waiting at a bridge which was up. In the dark.

DanyellasDonkey · 19/02/2016 17:24

Moving - THEY weren't "speeding past to overtake a stationary line of traffic waiting at a bridge which was up. In the dark." One person (the driver) was, allegedly, and as a result 4 innocent young men died.

Movingonmymind · 19/02/2016 17:45

Agree, driver killed innocent people and was v reckless

OhYouLuckyDuck · 19/02/2016 19:13

Moving which makes me feel very sorry for the driver's family as well as the other families. Knowing that your child did something which killed others :(
