Just to add something to the list of to-dos:

The issues could be raised with Mhairi on the webchat. She is a proper firebrand.

The last post by Kerala in the previous thread says 379 cases now filed in Cologne. FFS Angry No doubt that is the tip of the iceberg.

looks like you're not the only one.

One thing is for certain more time needs to be spent on integrating migrants and refugees into what is expected of them in European culture. This also means working hard against ghettoization (is that a word?).

We have to give the resources and put pressure on communities to lead the way and call on their faith leaders to do so. I am fully aware this will be uncomfortable for them, but you cannot have the advantages of a liberal society and think you can treat women as less than human.

Minority communities must grasp the nettle or face the consequences, such as a sudden surge to the far right and the loss of freedoms we have all worked hard for.

Thank you all who are contributing!

Can we ask MPs to ask questions in the house/house of lords about it? Parliamentary debates?

I'm thinking along the lines of 'this house believes that the hard-won equal rights of women living in the UK should be made clear to all men and women who make their home here, as well as the penalties for ignoring those laws.'

Probably a bit clumsy and wordy, but it should be publicly debated.

I really think there was an organised element to this. One of the articles, the femin site I think, tells of some men, dressed a rappers, apparently running the show. Has anone red similar?

Really, even the mad right wingers have not been able to orchestrate mass crimes on this scale. Either that or it really is a cultural thing, and TBH I would rather that it was organised than endemic.

Good idea. Its just horrifying. The only people I've heard in the mainstream media who are shouting about this are hard right types like Katie Hopkins and Rod Liddle who all of a sudden give a great big shit about women's rights. Yeah right - its just an excuse to carry on demonising migrants.

I don't want to see all migrants or all Muslims demonized, but equally I am sick of hearing that Islamic extremists have nothing to do with Islam and that Islam is a religion of peace, so therefore beyond criticism. Yet again it feels like women are being sacrificed for the sake of religion

The thing is, you can't educate someone out of their religious beliefs - which go hand in hand with their cultural beliefs - if you wholeheartedly believe in your religion then that trumps anything and everything the state can offer.

The state can't force people to comply.

I think the aim of the assaults was actually robbery. 'Cop a feel' at the same time as nicking a purse. I doubt it was organised, but once one starts, others see and catch on. A bit like riots. The fact that there were lots of men there is just because that it how it is in their culture. Visit their countries and you'll see that it's mostly men out on streets at night - the women stay home.

New migrants are probably sitting at home watching Jeremy Kyle and the like, thinking that's normal and that's what we are like. Can you imagine?

Also signing in.

Is anyone out there (frankfurter?) able to tell me definitively whether it is legal to carry pepper spray for self defence in Germany?

I want to offer it to my class but won't if it's not definitely allowed.

I'm deeply cynical about the human race as a whole, so never expected anything else than for this to go wrong. I don't know where Merkel's brain is.

Even if people don't wish to fully integrate, they should at least demonstrate some respect for the laws and culture of the society they're moving in to.

Bah Katie Hopkins hasn't got a deeply held belief on her.

She'll just say anything to get into the tabloids.
