did Fatima Whitbread ever undergo any kind of 'Gender test'?

How can she have passed the test in one country and then failed in another??

Report
expatinscotland · 18/12/2006 10:26

What exactly does it mean?

Is she a he?

Funnily enough, Tiredemma, thats who sprung to my mind .

I don't understand how the athlete in the link can pass one gender test and fail another?

now thats whats puzzling me as well. how can she pass one year and fail the next? has she had a sex swap op in the last year? does that legally change your gender?

Did they ask her if she left the loo seat up or down? Or which way she struck matches? Or did they get her to put up a shed?

He was beaten by a girl in the race though

I guess she could pass and fail a test if one test were rigged in someway.

Maybe she/he took testerone (you know what I mean) which enhances performance, but obviously makes her more a he...??

Do men strike matches differently than women?

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 18/12/2006 11:03

I assumed it was a blood test rather than a show-us-your-tackle test.

No matter about Fatima Whitbread, what about that Czech woman, Kratochvilova, 800m runner? She didn't even look like a woman but nobody challenged her when she won Olympic gold.

See here . Makes Fatima look positively petite and feminine.

LOL! I thought image one was Fatima. But I still think Jarmila was more butch - especially when actually running.

I think there some rare genetic conditions that could lead to a "male" result in a blood test for someone who has female parts and has believed herself to be female all her life. Wasn't there a British athlete caught out by this once?

There is a condition called Testicular Feminisation, the individual is genetically male but their body is insensitive to testosterone, or in a similar condition another hormone. Their testicles never descend from the abdomen, their genitals are female and they develop breasts. They don't develop pubic or underarm hair and they don't have a uterus. They can present as teenage girls who never start their periods but have normal breast development.

There are all sorts of conditions that can result in people being, effectively, between genders. It doesn't have to be deception or drugs.

I remember once a male athlete failed a drugs test becuase it showed he was pg - he'd got his dw to give the sample...
