Such a horrible case. I hope her family can find some comfort from the verdicts, but this must have torn them apart.

Watched the live statements on bbc and her dad and stepmum just seem broken. It was emotional watching the family tributes to her.

It's one of those cases where you just think "WTF, how in EARTH did this happen?"

Sounds like he had kidnapping fantasies and maybe the girlfriend did as well. It does sound as though the girlfriend was scared of him though and she described him as controlling. Not seen the news yet so not heard the family speak.

Rip Becky. I hope her Mum, Dad and Brother are able to come to terms now the case is over and find some peace. What it must be like for the Step Mum who has her Son, looks like grandchildren gone from her life, the loss of a stepdaughter and a heartbroken husband? I feel for the child and baby of the pair and their carers.

We live in Bristol and have a teenage daughter - really relieved that they have been found guilty but shocked that this dreadful crime has been committed in our city.
It must be really difficult for the rest of the family though - they will need lots of support as they attempt to rebuild their lives.

And, I hope the idiot who posted some awful things about poor Becky on this site yesterday feels ashamed.

Let's hope it's a proper life term for him; shame the girlfriend will be out sooner.

Once again, a murderer is shown to have a massive hard-core porn habit.

What a surprise.

Does anyone else think Becky's step mum has taken on a role of chief mourner here, sidelining her own mum?

Report
Helmetbymidnight · 12/11/2015 12:52

I guess she's trying to disassociate herself from her own son.

What a terrible mess. Poor child.

The Mum and Brother didn't go to the funeral or court. The Dad said he lost two family members as he won't give up his wife, he didn't state who. I think the Step Mum is in severe shock, still.

Jeremy vine programme talking about this now. I was very interested to hear one commentator, and I didn't catch who he was sadly, say that the porn was significant and that it (porn or the specific violent porn they watched?) was basically men mistreating women and this needed to be addressed. He also said the word misogyny was extremely important. Jeremy of course did not take either comment further.

There is a Guardian link to the porn aspect on the feminist thread.

Ive read the Guardian piece now, thank you.
I think I was just quite shocked, in a good way, to hear a man, on national daytime radio say that.
Should porn just be banned from the Internet?

just been watching the news,it said even the judge had to pause as it was so emotional

please please please let the prison authorities make sure they are watched 24/7 so that these cowards cannot commit suicide and take the easy way out,

this has happened a few time with cases like this

i had no idea they had a young child, poor child, what will happen to her

Hoare was also pregnant with twins at the time. I think she was 18 weeks pregnant. No one knows what has happened to them either. It was claimed a family member asked her and her reply was "I am no longer pregnant" but no one knows what has happened either termination, miscarriage or if they have been born.

No idea about their daughter either.

33 years minimum for him and 17 for her!

The judge, jury and family members have really gone through the mill.

yes i will admit i wondered about the twins

if she had had them surley that would of been leaked

i really dont know what to think of the twins, child etc,i suppose in the scheme of things its imaterial, but i admit im curious

those two have wrecked so many people/familys lives its heartbreaking for all those involved

To my mind Hoare should have been given life with a recommendation that she serve 20 years and Matthews should have been given a whole life tariff.

As it is Hoare will be out in less than 8 years' time while Matthews can look forward to having his liberty restored long before he becomes of pensionable age.

Justice for the victim of this most heinous of crimes? I think not.

i thought it said he will be due out when he's 61yrs

bloody hell will she be out in 8yrs,if so that is disgusting

i thought the sentences they got were the minimum they would do,shocked

Report
howtorebuild · 13/11/2015 17:58

I suspect they were told not to discuss the twins, family court if involved means you can't discuss. Though many people other than parents often claim to know everything that goes on.Hmm

good point

Report
AFewGoodWomen · 13/11/2015 19:57

In the papers it said 'she is no longer pregnant' which could mean miscarriage, abortion OR that she gave birth but they don't want to say so as the twins can then be surmised to be in care.
