Apparently she has a long lingering complications from the ebola virus and has been admitted to the royal free as a precuation. I feel so sorry for this brave woman and her family. Its frightening that ebola survivors across the world are a potential time bomb. Certainly if ebola can flare up like the herpes or shingles virus it will make life harder for ebola survivors in west africa. At the moment ebola survivors in west african are often ostracised because of fear. Their lives will be impossible if there is the remotest justification for such a fear.

There is justification. This is a rare, but not unknown, late complication. The virus can linger (non-infectiously) in some bodily fluids (eg eyeballs). It can also turn up in semen and it is standard advice for male recovered patients to use condoms for at least 6 months after recovery.

As with a primary infection, it's not infectious when the patient is not symptomatic and even then it is spread by contact with blood or other bodily fluids, so the risks to the public are assessed as very low (but as precaution, her closest contacts are being screened).

Unfortunately, the latest word from the Royal Free is that she is in a serious condition. No further updates will be given until there is a marked change in how she is.

Just reading that she's been airlifted to the Royal Free Hospital for a third time, poor woman. I didn't know that the last time was due to meninigitis which was caused by Ebola.

I'm wondering whether this admission is precautionary? The report says "Ms Cafferkey had been admitted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow "under routine monitoring by the Infectious Diseases Unit".
The health board said she was "undergoing further investigations and her condition remains stable"."

I really hope she is okay and this is just a precaution, it would be awful if she was to have lifelong health complications.

Really you're critically ill link is from last October when she had meningitis caused by the Ebola.

The current story still says she is seriously ill, but the outlook is good.

Hopefully it will stay that way and she will be well again soon.

Ebola absolutely hammers the immune system - hopefully she'll recover fully in time - get well soon.
