It's like a car crash - I can't look away.

I am reading more and more in the build-up to the Paris talks at the end of the year. China has surprised everyone with a bigger pledge than expected. But will it be enough? What about the US? They ignored the Kyoto Protocol. Obama is in the news today talking about melting ice in Alaska - yet gave Shell the go-ahead to drill in the Arctic.

I am genuinely terrified of what will happen if the world does not act fast.

The climate on Earth has changed from Tropical to Ice Age and back again many over times over during its existence, long before human activity could have played a role and there is nothing human beings can do to change it.

US emissions are currently about 15% lower than in 1990, better than Kyoto, mainly due to fracking.

EU emissions are higher than 1990, although most have been exported overseas to low wage countries.

As of 2 weeks ago there is 452,000 square miles more ice at the Artic than 3 years ago.

Life is better now than before and continues to be so.

I am not terrified.

Then you won't be so worried and alarmed about it any more - or, depending how much you research it, maybe you will be more alarmed when you find out what the real objective is.

Remember, they need to scare the bejeesus out of you in order for you to go along with the plan. Nuff said.

'Climate change 'exaggerated' in government adverts

Two government press adverts which used nursery rhymes to raise awareness of climate change have been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

It said the advertisements went beyond mainstream scientific consensus in asserting that climate change would cause flooding and drought.

A total of 939 people complained to the ASA about the "Act on CO2" campaign.

Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband said the ads should have been "phrased better" but defended the campaign. "

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8571353.stm

It's a bit like "nudge technology", behavioral psychology, to get you to go along by selling the message hard. The great and the good still use the time-honoured method of "scaring the bejeesus". But even with all of their media resources, huge numbers of ordinary people don't follow the script and believe what the great and the good say.

"This Controversial Climate Change Ad Made Sony Drop its Sponsorship

They'd obviously spunked a lotta money on the ad, which features a Gillian Anderson voiceover and appearance from famous English footballer/soccer-player Peter Crouch, but when it illustrates exploding kiddies it's no surprise that Sony wanted nothing to do with it.

Made to draw attention to the climate change day October 10th, the 10:10 advert riled Sony up so much that they canceled their support of the event, labeling it "ill-conceived and tasteless." Kyocera, another supporter, has also spoken up about how it was a "grave error," but hasn't as yet followed Sony out of the door.

The video has been taken down from 10:10's website, but thanks to the nature of the internet it shall live on in tasteless glory forever more."

"No Pressure: the fall-out from Richard Curtis's explosive climate film

Whatever you think about No Pressure, the Richard Curtis short film for the 10:10 climate campaign published last Thursday before its withdrawal by the campaign group less than 24 hours later, one thing is undeniable: it has generated a high pressure torrent of comment across guardian.co.uk, Twitter, the blogosphere and the press.

If bloggers and environmentalists thought Richard Curtis's 10:10 'No Pressure' film was the wrong way to communicate on climate change, what's the right way?"

www.theguardian.com/environment/green-living-blog/2010/oct/04/10-10-activism

It doesn't matter how much "nudge theory" or "scare the bejeesus" they use, how many luvvies and charidees they throw at the people, how "mesemerised" the great and the good are by it and how much taxpayer money they throw at their "mesmerisations", they will never "mesmerise" the people with it.

caroldecker, you don't actually believe the stuff these global civil servants come out with, do you? Some of them have been on the news trying to "nudge" us into believing that some of the migrants from Eritrea and Afghanistan, camped out in Calais, are there because of "climate change".

"Australia PM's adviser says climate change a UN hoax"

A top Australian government business adviser has said climate change is a hoax by the United Nations.

Most climate models were wrong and there was little evidence of climate change, said Maurice Newman.

He said the UN had used climate change as a "hook" to establish and control a new world order.

Mr Newman's comments were rejected by climate scientists, while Environment Minister Greg Hunt said it was "not something I would express".

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-32639813

I wouldn't expect Greg Hunt to express that. I don't know, but my guess is that he is a "moderniser".

Don't forget that Agenda 21 is the UN's project. National politicians go along with the global UN project.

The Rip Earth Summit that the national bigwigs jet out to was an Agenda 21 initiative by the UN.

"Agenda 21, established at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, or "Earth Summit", in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is the blueprint for sustainability in the 21st century. Agenda 21 is a commitment to sustainable development, which was agreed by many of the world's governments. Nations that have pledged to take part in Agenda 21 are monitored by the International Commission on Sustainable Development, and are encouraged to promote Agenda 21 at the local and regional levels within their own countries"

...
"Theorists argue that Agenda 21, a 23-year-old non-binding UN resolution that suggests ways for governments and NGOs to promote sustainable development, is the linchpin in a plot to subjugate humanity under an eco-totalitarian regime. One of its most outspoken critics, American Policy Center president Tom DeWeese, has described the resolution as “a new kind of tyranny that, if not stopped, will surely lead us to a new Dark Ages of pain and misery yet unknown to mankind”.

APC is on the political fringes, but anti-Agenda 21 sentiment is moving into the political mainstream. Criticism of the resolution extended to the Republican party’s 2012 platform, which stated: “We strongly reject the UN Agenda 21 as erosive of American sovereignty.”

"Did Obama science advisor Dr. John Holdren actually call for the American government to “de-develop” the U.S. and “reduce” its population?

Yes, he did.

Recalling Holdren’s radical prescription for America is particularly timely with EPA preparing for the Monday rollout of one of the most destructive and useless government policies in American history.

EPA is preparing to severely limit CO2 emissions from existing electrical power plants (the ones already paid for and operating)
...
It is also consistent with the calls for central planning, deindustrialization and redistribution made in the name of “sustainability” by the acolytes of UN Agenda 21 and the UN climate change agenda that goes with it.

Holdren has tried to deny what he wrote, which has caused controversy and an ongoing war of words between the left-wing Media Matters and Glenn Beck’s The Blaze. They call it a myth, but reading Holdren’s words in their full context, what does Media Matters think Holdren’s call for government to reduce population and de-develop means? It certainly smacks more of authoritarianism than voluntarism.
...
Read what John Holdren recommended as the “responsible” course for America’s future in his own words.
...
"Political pressure must be applied immediately to induce the United States government to assume its responsibility to halt the growth of the American population. Once growth is halted, the government should undertake to influence the birth rate so that the population is reduced to an optimum size and maintained there "
...
"A massive campaign must be launched to restore a high-quality environment in North America and to de-develop the United States. De-development means bringing our economic system (especially patterns of consumption) into line with the realities of ecology and the global resource situation."

One last example to show the type of nudge psychology techniques which engender the fear that you obviously and genuinely feel when you say

"I am genuinely terrified of what will happen if the world does not act fast."

I suppose the poitive side of it is that all the taxpayer money they spend on "nudge" is not entirely wasted. It does work and terrify a lot of people to want to "act" aseo they wish them to.

Here is soemthing from today's news and illustrates the type of frightening predictions a chardee might make

"Kids Company warned its closure could cause 'rioting'
...
BBC Newsnight and BuzzFeed News have learned of a document, emailed to civil servants in the name of Alan Yentob, chair of the charity's trustees, on 2 June. It warned that a sudden closure of the charity would mean a "high risk of arson attacks on government buildings".

The document also warned of a high risk of "looting" and "rioting", and cautioned that the "communities" served by Kids Company could "descend into savagery". The document was written in language that civil servants across government described as "absurd", "hysterical" and "extraordinary".

//www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-34043725

and here are some dire terrifyng warnings about "climate change"

"Scientific model supported by UK Government Taskforce flags risk of civilisation’s collapse by 2040
...
“We ran the model forward to the year 2040, along a business-as-usual trajectory based on ‘do-nothing’ trends?—?that is, without any feedback loops that would change the underlying trend. The results show that based on plausible climate trends, and a total failure to change course, the global food supply system would face catastrophic losses, and an unprecedented epidemic of food riots. In this scenario, global society essentially collapses as food production falls permanently short of consumption.”

Another steering committee member raised their hand: “So is this going to happen? Is this a forecast?”

“No,” said Jones. “This scenario is based on simply running the model forward. The model is a short-term model. It’s not designed to run this long as in the real world, trends are always likely to change, whether for better or worse.”

“Okay, but what you’re saying is that if there is no change in current trends, then this is the outcome?” continued the questioner.

Jones nodded with a half-smile. “Yes,” he said quietly."

Unfortunately you can't have a discussion about climate change on MN without Claig posting spammy links. Just think of he or she as being a village idiot - always around, annoying, but ultimately harmless.

LOL at quoting Tony Abbott as the voice of reason. Good god, the man is an utter laughingstock! and even more LOLs at "But Donald Trump will stop it, the USA won't accept it."

Yes of course if you google 'climate change scam' you're going to get screeds of info on "scams". Just like if you google "vaccination scam" you're going to get a whole lot of guff on vaccinations being evil and if you google "9/11 conspiracy..." etc.

The world has definitely heated up and cooled down over thousands and millions of years. That's true. But never as fast as this.

I'm also very concerned. I don't think most people want to engage with it because the possible outcomes are just so frightening. Like many of us I have kids, I don't want to see them fighting wars over resources 30 or 40 years down the track. It's only this year - hottest month on record, forest fires, floods - that I think the tide is starting to turn. I hope it's not too late.

'I don't think most people want to engage with it because the possible outcomes are just so frightening.'

No, maybe it is because they don't actually believe it, including the bigwigs who have to promote it. Occasionally someone like Tony Abbott breaks ranks and then there is utter panic as the fear is that others will follow and the game will be up.

'your last post is simply insane. Kid's Club? WTF are you on about? '

Kid's Club wanted government taxpayer money. Their "safeguarding" team came up with a letter suggesting that there could be a

"high risk of arson attacks on government buildings".

The document also warned of a high risk of "looting" and "rioting", and cautioned that the "communities" served by Kids Company could "descend into savagery".

I think that is ridiculous and I think it is a similar ridiculous scare as

"Scientific model supported by UK Government Taskforce flags risk of civilisation’s collapse by 2040"

In general, they want you to be scared so that you will go along and pay up and do what they want.

'You sound totally unhinged.'

What I think is totally unhinged is anyone who believes what the "safeguarding" team wrote or that "civilisation will collapse by 2040". But it takes al sorts and all opinions.
