Has anyone seen this? There's going to be a full investigation into Ted Heath and historic child sex abuse.

The net will be growing tighter around a lot of others if there's something in this.

BBC version

It doesn't seen to be an investigation into Heath, rather an examination of police conduct in another historic investigation following allegations that lines of enquiry were dropped because Heath's name came up. There's no way to tell at the moment if the allegations were at all plausible, and the question now is whether the police acted correctly in what they did (or didn't do) to investigate.

So its really just another big helping of nothing,

I would hope that Lowell Goddard's enquiry into historic child abuse will encompass Ted Heath as well as the other senior politicians alleged to have abused children. But I imagine it will be a long time before her report comes out.

about time. this has been rumbling for years.
this is not "a big helping of nothing".
this goes right to the very top.
thatcher put a lid on it and cameron has tried to tighten that lid.
the house of cards may be about to collapse.

at last.

(anyone know who are the 2 australian prime minsters implicated in this?)

At long last and Tom Watson finally has got his day.

I hope there's a lot of people not sleeping easy tonight.

Well done Bill Maloney and others for the great film on haute de la garenne , jersey.

This isn't entirely about Heath though, this is about police mishandling of the situation, it is a piece of misdirection to make people think that something is being done.

It would be something if Heath et al were being investigated.

On Sky they have said 4 police forces are investigating Ted Heath. That's the Met, Jersey, Wiltshire and Kent.

I think I heard on the radio news that victims have come forward today following an appeal. I'm ill in bed and may gave got the wrong end of the stick though- can anyone verify that?

I remember these rumours flying around when he was PM, and being very quickly shushed up. So sad for the victims if it was found to have been the truth.

I feel that I should make my position on this slightly clearer.

I think that it is fantastic that this is being investigated, but I don't see that it is being investigated fully, until we are given something other than dead politicians and past it pop stars etc. IMHO the system is still protecting itself.

Finally, this has been covered up for too long. Please let's have some justice for the poor kids involved in these horrific crimes.

Boney I totally agree with you. It was yesterday that they said they were only going to look at the police handling of this - to today with 4 forces saying he is under investigation. One of his friends was on the radio this morning and he said they will never find any evidence against him
My immediate reaction was - because he knew it had all been disposed of

AuntieStella · 04/08/2015 20:49

It's moved on A Lot since yesterday, and it does seem that at least one of the four police forces involved has received information about fresh allegations. And that it is now a wider investigation than one into police conduct (something which, of course, may be significant in itself).

2 australian PMs? the mind boggles.

Glad this is still being looked at.

Report
Sansarya · 04/08/2015 21:15

Are they Australian PMs who are still alive? Because that definitely narrows it down.

Something is really annoying me about the news coverage on this. Across the news are references to "rent boy" and even "self confessed rent boy". A 12 yr old child does not choose to become a prostitute. It is not a career choice. Children are not "rented out". Its time to stop this ridiculous language in the media and challenge it.

Report
LineRunner · 04/08/2015 22:49

Yy, candy. It's absolutely loathsome vocabulary. These children were / are trafficked, enslaved, abused, raped.

Interesting in a horrible way that boys are called 'rent boys' but girls aren't called 'rent girls'. They are 'child prostitutes'.

Anyway, who creates this gruesome vocabulary, that tries to imply that abused kids have some sort of economic agency? Talk about minimising abuse.

There has been stuff flying around the internet for ages about this, apparently him and Jimmy Saville had boys from the Jersey care home on his yaught. What disgusts me is how quick people are to say, oh of course he wouldn't have done something like this, he's just a victim as he was never married. Reminds me of what some people said about Saville when the allegations first came out, men seem to be so eager to cover up the heinous crimes of other men. Well lets just wait and see...

I hope plenty of Jersey-related victims come forward, with strong evidence. I was there - on Morning Cloud, in Jersey - and I know it is true although I was told to shut up and look the other way. I did. I don't know whether the more gruesome tales about Heath are accurate. As I discover more detail about this ongoing issue, I rather fear that all of the gruesome stories are true, about most of the perpetrators.

When I heard the news headlines, my first thought was "They're throwing a dead body under the bus."

It's very important that the victims who were shipped around our coastlines on 'sailing trips'* be heard and believed. But we mustn't ignore what is still happening.

  • In my twenties, I didn't understand why my parents and various other older people were so fiercely opposed to the fashion for councils sending young offenders and others in care for sailing tuition and outward-bound courses. Now I do. I was too thick, or had too resolutely looked the other way, to link this up with the young men I'd met around the Channel Islands.

Garlick, are you being taken seriously? Do you feel listened to, as a small part of the evidence?

Report
Garlick · 04/08/2015 23:06

I have no evidence on this. I have given leads to the police and to Exaro regarding certain other sexual exploiters of children. I know the police still have it on file. This is all I can do.

Report
LineRunner · 04/08/2015 23:08

Garlick, you can send it all again to the Lowell Goddard inquiry. There is a website and an email address.

Sorry, I meant what you witnessed rather than anything physical. I'm glad you've been listened to. I'm still finding it odd that it's not a mainstream everyday news item.
