really distressed after seeing this report on fb. haven't seen it in the mainstream media and am really shocked. this is crazy. crazy that the world can unite to condemn the killing of Cecile (I was one of those people) but this news is hardly reported. the remaining members of this family are critically ill in hospital. why would anyone want to do this? I have friends and family in Israel who seem to think this is not major news.

RIP little man.

It's been on the mainstream news for hours. Can you please amend your title, it's horrible and even though they think 4 far right Jewish men did it - it's not definite.

It's absolutely horrible and the bbc commentary has been very good so far.

It is awful. I agree with changing the title though. These people are believed to be terrorists not 'Jewish settlers'

apologies about the title. I will contact mnhq.

I haven't watched the news today much but didn't see it on sky news. I hope it doesn't trigger any further violence in the region. I don't think there can be any doubt that it was Jewish settlers who carried out out.

It is a terrorist attack. This wouldn't have been carried out by 'everyday' Jews.

With a big rise in anti semitic attacks in this country and Europe we need to be careful about the language that we use.

RepeatAdNauseum · 31/07/2015 18:10

It has been on Sky News all day. And BBC 24.

There is some doubt over who carried it out, but even if it was the four people suspected, they are terrorists. That is how they should be referred too, not as Jewish settlers.

This is ghastly but as B'tselem has said unsurprising. I follow a number of organisations that work in the West Bank, such as Christian Peacemaker Team and the International Solidarity Movement, and the daily lives of Palestinians there are difficult in the extreme. There are the checkpoints, home demolitions, arrests and assaults often of children by the Israeli Defence Force. Just daily hardship and humiliation. In addition Palestinians are frequently attacked by settlers. Their olive trees and other crops are destroyed, they have urine thrown at then, they are assaulted... and sometimes killed. The setters seem to have total impunity to do this and unlike this case, the attacks never make the mainstream media except perhaps Al Jazeera.
So I don't accept this was a couple of terrorist fanatics, the whole settler culture and much of the wider current thinking in Israel has directly led to this.

Evening folks. The OP has asked us to edit the name of this thread and we agree that since it is as yet not proven who carried out this attack, and it seems likely to be the work of a few extremists, rather than an entire people, it was best to rename the thread, so we've now done that.

RepeatAdNauseum · 31/07/2015 19:04

Thanks Iona.

Sorry OP, my reply seems a bit hasty. The title got to me, and it's such horrible news. I didn't mean it as an attack, though - I just wanted to reassure you that it has featured heavily on the news.

Horrific.

Yes they should be referred to as terrorists, but there never seems to be any problem with referring to Muslim terrorists as Muslim terrorists, so I can't see the problem with referring to Jewish terrorists as Jewish terrorists.

This is horrific, but what happens to Palestinian people every day is horrific. It disgusts me how the majority if the world not only turns a blind eye, but actively condones it.

I'm Jewish and am absolutely disgusted and distraught that these extremists have done such a thing. They go against the whole of the Jewish people by these terrible and unforgivable actions. Their attack has been condemned in the strongest possible terms by all sides of the Jewish community.

I am sending prayers and peace to the family . RIP little one x

Maybe not, but they weren't being refered to that way though. That is the point.

Even Netenyahu has described these pieces of murdering filth as terrorists. I hope they're caught and jailed for life.

I saw this in the news yesterday and it's just so horribly upsetting.

I know that some people say the BBC etc are biased against Israel (not sure how to put it) when covering what is going on in west bank etc but as far as the international community is concerned these settlements are illegal aren't they so why the hell doesn't the international community do something about it - because the states say that Israel must be supported no matter what?

It's an intolerable situation.

It is awful. Inhuman Sad

"These people are believed to be terrorists not 'Jewish settlers'"

Which Jewish terrorists would those be? Never heard of any such group in recent

Whirlpool, there are also people that say the BBC is biased in favour of Israel.

And yes, the Americans say Israel must be supported, which is why they get away with inflicting such horror on people. We aren't blameless either though.

Do we have a definition of 'terrorist' that the whole world agrees on? Because in my mind, most of the Israeli army are terrorists. When we decide to drop bombs on innocent people in Iraq and Afghanistan, we are terrorists. Having the support of a government doesn't make certain actions ok. It's not ok in North Korea, it wasn't ok in nazi germany, and it's not ok in the land now known as Israel.

Report
SlaggyIsland · 01/08/2015 15:45

The BBC has a fairly extreme pro-Israeli bias, and not just in my opinion

RT report

They will report on any Israelis killed by Palestinian action, however Palestinians are killed almost daily (mostly by the IDF rather than settlers), and it's rarely reported on unless it's something very extreme like the murder of this baby.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to swear.

Please, though, just keep it for another time. This is an awful, awful event. It is inhumane. It is right to keep in mind what a terrible act this is. NOT to diminish it into an excuse to discuss the media portrayal of Israel.

I watch RT, Aljazeera and France24 because they lack the BBC's right wing stance. Look how many of their reporters are ex Tory party.
