I find I have all sorts of odds and sods in my bag, including a battery for my car remote control (guess whose battery ran out and couldn't get into her car when parked in a loading bay!!) and a screw driver to unscrew the back of said remote, plasters, umbrella, plus the usual purse, cheque book, etc.

I have
Purse
Car Keys
phone.

My sister has every thing bar the kitchen sink in hers and she doesn't even have children. She also doesn't have her handbag with her at weekends but has her garden tool bag.

I have started carrying much less these days. But it does depend on where I am going and what I am doing. They do tend to acquire kids junk though - stuff that they insist on taking out with them and then want to get rid of.

I am immensely pleased that now with a 2 1/2 yo and a 5yo I am past the changing bag stage. I occasionally carry a few wipes in a freezer bag and sometimes take DD's folding pelican bib, but that is the maximum.

Last night I went out with house keys, mobile, purse and lip gloss. Today at work I have all of the above plus work pass and various bits of paper.

I went out with a friend with a 4 month old baby. She had with her nappies, wipes, bottles and thermos with hot water. OK fair enough. But then she had a full size tin of formula and a full kitchen roll among other things. And she carried this all around with her for the four hours we were there.

I carry as little as possible as a rebellion resulting from having to carry around all the stuff you have to when your children are little. Usually keys and some money.

(In my pockets, I have a wallet, keys, phone, lip goop, and asthma puffer.)

No thanks HC :-P

(I do actually own a handbag or two. And I have a "bum bag" which I use in summer, when I don't have a fleece with pockets on.)

"bum bag" because that's not actually the word for it, it's really a fanny pack.

hoxtonchick · 15/11/2006 11:17

Last time ds1 up-ended it in public, I had strangers scrabbling for the following, amongst others:
as mentioned, sachets of sauce, sugar, drinking straws, serviettes.
Various manky old pieces of make up- most without lids.
Tampons and FemFresh (OMG!)
Sweets
Sticky, hairy bottle of calpol & spoon
Plasters
Diary/organiser thing, stuffed with bits of paper
Clean vest, newborn size (Too small for either Ds!)
Mobile
Purse
Loose change
Keys

these is so much more but i daren't look inside the bloody thing.

Oh yes, the other day i found a bag of mouldy apple pieces i had used to pacify ds1 with on the bus!
Eeeew!

Ds1 pulled a vegetable knife out of my mother's voluminous bag once. When asked she replied that it was for peeling oranges...obviously...

I've just ventured into mine, it's about time I sorted it out and I have:

A box of Nurofen
Purse
Hairbrush
Toy truck
Chewing gum
Excessive ammounts of makeup...I do own a makeup bag I have no idea why I'm lugging it all around in my handbag
Tweezers
Loads of tiny hairclips
digital Camera
Mobile Phone
Bottle of water
Pair of scissors??
Cigarettes
Lighter
Pack of lockets
and a bottle of nail varnish!

None of which I'll end up sorting out and it will all just get dumped back in
