I think this could end up having political implications because the next World Cup is in Russia. I think there may be some calls to strip Russia of the tournament or possibly boycott it etc.

Report

Not that I think Russia has done anyhing wrong, but I think some media and political forces may say that it has.

This has been approx 20 years in the waiting. There is guaranteed to be a political motivation.

Plus "Qatar.... No, wait, where? Qatar ???? " Blinding obviousness.

Yes, the timing makes a political angle possible.

The BBC and some of our media seem to have been at the forefront over the past few years in nvestigating this.

Russia is no longer favoured by many world politicians and Qatar is one of our allies. But there is a lot of money at stake about who holds the contest. If it is stripped from Qatar (under the heat arguments as well), then another country will benefit.

metro.co.uk/2015/05/27/england-made-bookies-favourites-to-host-2018-world-cup-following-fifa-arrests-5217397/

The headline picture is a triumphant England 1966 team and a despondent Putin. The game continues, there is laughter all round media circles.

This was Blatter in Sep 2014

"On the English question, raised after Greg Dyke’s outburst against him at a FIFA convention in Brazil, Blatter makes it clear that he ‘likes’ the new FA chairman, holds no grudge and is sure he will be ‘respectful’ next time they meet.

He also urges Dyke to step back from vowing that England will never again bid for the World Cup while he is FIFA president. That statement was born of England’s angst at their high-profile bid team securing only one vote in the ballot for 2018 but Blatter says: ‘You have to be prepared to accept losing – and of course be ready to bid again.’

However, the earliest England could host the Finals is 2030.

But now we have more support for England holding the 2018 World Cup instead of Russia.

"Former UEFA president Lennart Johansson wants to see England host 2018 World Cup after seven FIFA arrests made in Zurich
•Lennart Johnasson said he is not surprised to learn of the seven arrests
•Johansson wants to see a review into Qatar and Russia World Cup bids
•Johnasson believes that England should now host the 2018 World Cup"

The pressure mounts, the game continues. Will Blatter lose his election? The media is saying he must go and asking if he has finally had enough. I'm not sure Blatter is down and out, he knows how to play the game and has support across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

'Here's the case for a re-vote on the 2022 Qatar World Cup'

uk.businessinsider.com/fifa-corruption-scandal-should-cause-re-vote-for-2022-world-cup-2015-5?r=US

The game is starting to become clearer. Some people would like a revote for the World Cup. They need Blatter out because he has stood up to the pressure and said there will be no revote and that Russia and Qatar will hold the World Cup. So in the media we are now seeing football faces saying that Blatter's election vote must be postponed. That will allow more time for the pressure to build with the aim of turning more of the voters against Blatter.

But Blatter has been here before, he knows the game.

Does Davi Ginola actually understand the game? Will he be invited back on the BBC after an answer like that? They are cranking it up and he said "No".

Will be interesting to see how this story unfolds. There's talk of millions in bribes stashed away and of course the fact that Russia (who are systematically invading Chechnya) got awarded 2018 and Qatar (seriously?) Was awarded 2022 has always left most of us confused especially Qatar when the temperature means that we will need to restructure our league to accommodate the tournament that year.

Report
claig · 27/05/2015 23:09

Chechnya?

Chechnya is a Russian ally. Its leader supports Putin.

Blatter wants the World Cup to go to the Middle East and Qatar won the bid.

Metro headline

"We woz robbed"

so now we want it back.

Someone was interviewed on TV today arguing that FIFA's secret ballot should go because then voting would become more transparent.

We were told during the 2018 bid that we could expect quite a lot of votes for us, but it turned out we only received 1 vote even though we had sent Prince William, Cameron and David Beckham down there.

Some senior people must have been really cheesed off. No wonder some people want secret ballots scrapped. That way they could find out who lied about offering support.

"Partner in England ‘fiddle’ went back on voting deal

THE England bid broke Fifa’s rules by striking a secret vote-swapping pact with South Korea in the contest to win the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, a dossier published yesterday by parliament reveals.

The dossier details how England’s bid executives say they made the agreement with Chung Mong-joon, the South Korean Fifa executive committee (Exco) member, on the eve of the vote.

As a result Geoff Thompson, England’s Fifa Exco member, is understood to have voted for the South Korean bid as his first choice to host the 2022 World Cup.

The deal went wrong because, according to bid executives, Chung reneged on the pact and did not vote for England in the secret ballot. Instead, he is believed to have voted for Russia to win the 2018 tournament."

In England's unsuccessful bid for the 2018 World Cup, a "total of fifteen stadia from twelve cities were proposed to FIFA. Had England's bid been successful, the final decision on which would host matches would have been made in 2013. Three stadia would have been forwarded from London: Wembley Stadium, Arsenal's Emirates Stadium and either the Olympic Stadium or Tottenham Hotspur's yet-to-be-built new ground (if the latter were ready).

"At the time of bidding, the Olympic Stadium was under construction the Olympic games in 2012; its future following the Olympics was unclear and beyond the control of the World Cup bid committee, and so the Tottenham ground was put forward alongside it. It was not made clear during the bid which stadium would have been preferred had both stadia been viable candidates in 2013.[13]

"The other stadia that were nominated were Sunderland's Stadium of Light, Birmingham's Villa Park, the New Nottingham Forest Stadium, Elland Road in Leeds, Sheffield's Hillsborough Stadium, St James' Park in Newcastle, the new Bristol City Stadium, Plymouth's Home Park, Old Trafford and the City of Manchester Stadium in Manchester, and, in Liverpool, either the existing Anfield or the proposed Stanley Park Stadium.

"In the case of Liverpool, the bid committee determined that the current Anfield stadium would have been, with minor improvements, acceptable for World Cup matches; however, because of Liverpool FC's plans to build a new ground, the committee specified that the new stadium would take the place of Anfield if it were ready in time.[13]

"Many of the stadia selected would have required minor modernisation in order to meet the strict requirements for holding World Cup tournament games, as is usual for all pre-existing stadia. The grounds in Leeds, Sheffield, Milton Keynes and Plymouth in particular were all set for an increase in capacity, whilst new stadiums proposed in Nottingham and Bristol were a part of the bid."

"Fifa president Sepp Blatter plays a long game"

www.ft.com/cms/s/0/a52d2b42-048e-11e5-adaf-00144feabdc0.html#axzz3bPSXWFMs

They think Blatter may survive it. They say that "Western reformers may not dare to deprive Putin and a powerful Mulim country" of the right to hold the World Cup.

I don't think they understand the real political goal behind some of this and the wish to embarrass Putin. All the slebs, faces, elites, media and luvvies are on board. Even if Russia holds it, lots of luvvies will probably say that Western teams should boycott it.

There is likely to be so many luvvies and football faces, twitteing and griiting their teeth, on the news tonight moaning and accusng non-European delegatons of corrupt practices, calling for heads to roll, saying that people are finished and calling for World Cup boycotts of the 2019 Russian World Cup, that BBC HQ won't be abe to accommodate them all in the Green Rooms.

"FA chairman Greg Dyke calls for possible Russia 2018 boycott

FA chairman Greg Dyke has told Sky Sports News HQ that if Sepp Blatter wins Friday's FIFA presidential vote, he wants talks with the other UEFA nations about pulling out of the World Cup finals in Russia in three years' time.

Dyke is uncertain whether a unilateral boycott by England would be a realistic option but believes a pan-European approach would be more effective to bring about change at the top in football's world governing body."

Ex-BBC Greg Dyke will be all over the BBC. The sterling work the BBC and some of our newspapers have done over the past few years will be praised on news channels. Pundits will be called upon and the denunciations of Blatter wlll seem like he is Beelzebub himself.

There will be lamentations as luvvies will call for his head, but he will keep his head and say that he is going to sort out whoever carried out the corruption.

Blatter has won. It went to a second round but Prince Ali withdrew before the second round was carried out.

Blatter is the winner. Cue wailing and moaning on the BBC and of every metropolitan elite member in the land. Cries of corruption, dirty deals and all sorts will now be levelled at anyone and anything that moves in sight who may possibly have voted for Blatter. Putin escaped lightly from the machinations of the elite, but they will be back to embarrass him further. Cue football faces and luvvies and elites on the BBC calling for a boycott of the 2018 World Cup to be held in Russia.
