here

He hasn't actually done anything, as far as I can tell.

Great callers to Jeremy Vine as usual - calling for him to be hanged - not

i thought this was possibly a little reactionary too
tinker. He sounds bonkers, but dangerous?? seems like we are heading for something akin to Macarthyism. quite worrying.

hertsnessex · 07/11/2006 19:55

i think his plots to put bombs in hotels and limos were obviously DANGEROUS, hardly a teenager prank........ even if it was a little reactonary, im pleased, its sending the right message.

JoolsToo · 07/11/2006 19:57

So they caught him before he did do something, I for one am grateful - he's admitted conspiracy to murder.

Blandmum · 07/11/2006 19:58

He was planning to set off a dirty bomb, ie spread radiation round areas of the UK and USA. He planned to plant a bomb to go off under the Themes, that would have cause hundreds of people to drown.

Do you think we should only punish people when they have actually done things like this, or would you have been one of the people asking, 'Why wasn't he stopped before he did this awful thing'

I don't belive in the death penalty, but I do belive this man deserves to be locked up

Carmenere · 07/11/2006 20:00

He has done something, he has plotted to kill thousands of people, he spent all of his adult life plotting to kill. FFS the police in this country have done a good job here and deserve our thanks and respect.

foxinsocks · 07/11/2006 20:02

I was surprised by this - he sounds like exactly the sort of person they would want to use for intelligence purposes (to lead them to others) rather than put up for trial.

moopymoo · 07/11/2006 20:03

Definitely more than a teenage prank, but i guess im in 2 minds. we live in scary times, there is a very thin line between plotting and actually carrying out and of course its fantastic that he was caught before he did anything. However, i do think it sounds like he is a serial fantasist who needs help. Its easy for people to cross the line from fantasy to reality if their boundries are non-existent. so difficult to legislate against without encroaching on civil liberties. glad i dont have to make decisions about this stuff!

JoolsToo · 07/11/2006 20:10

doing is the next step from fantasising

hertsnessex · 07/11/2006 20:29

i think he got "just a little bit" of what he deserved.......

Callisto · 07/11/2006 20:47

I doubt that the police or intelligence services would have bothered wasting time and effort on a fantasist. I also think that the sentence he was given (at least 40 years I think) speaks volumes.

Tinker · 08/11/2006 07:55

Yes, needs locking up maybe, but with psychiatric treatment. Agree with moopymoo - worrying times.
