mother and 4 daughters killed in deliberate housefire

Father survived and so did son who is in hospital waiting for leukaemia.

Very sad story. The father and son will be in my prayers - how are they gonna get through this?

Whoever did it did not leave the premises?

Was it the mum or dad then?

wannaBe1974 · 01/11/2006 17:09

this is so tragic. and police say that whoever started it didn't leave the premises so it must of been one of the family - why ever would someone do such a thing.

ilovecaboose · 01/11/2006 17:09

shocking isn't it. COuld have been one of kids or parents

However police say they are not ruling out that someone deliberately set it up to look like noone left.

Very sad story.

But its says house was locked from inside so that indicated internal locks and bolts and chains and stuff.

ledodgyfireworksingedmyeyebrow · 01/11/2006 17:12

This is tragic. Could somebody have put a firework through the letterbox perhaps or would this have been discovered by now?

beckybrastraps · 01/11/2006 17:12

Oh God. Be careful with speculation. I can't help thinking of that poor man in Corfu and all the suicide pact theories.

wannaBe1974 · 01/11/2006 17:25

I would have thought a firework through the letter box would have been the first point of enquiry given the time of year etc.

piglit · 01/11/2006 17:31

Oh come on people. Have you not learned anything from that ill informed speculation about that poor family in Corfu?

LIZS · 01/11/2006 17:32

Tragic however the fire began

wannaBe1974 · 01/11/2006 17:59

but the circs of this are widely different to those in korfu - "police have begun a murder enquiry" does not imply that this could have simply been a tragic accident. It is tragic, and whether it was someone in the house or not, someone deliberately started a fire in that house, and as a result 5 people are dead and one is critically ill.

beckybrastraps · 01/11/2006 18:09

Knock yourself out then. Who do you reckon? Bereaved father, dead mother....?
It still makes me uncomfortable.

wannaBe1974 · 01/11/2006 18:40

I guess we may never know. I imagine that if police think it was someone other than the father, a statement will be issued saying they are not looking for any suspects. But a police spokesman said on r5 just now that there were several seats of fire in the house, that there were accellorants and various other suspicious activity which they cannot go into right now, but that early indications are that whoever started the fire did not leave the house.

I think it's horrible for all concerned, especially for the 17 year old son who was in hospital at the time.

wannaBe1974 · 04/11/2006 11:26

the father has also died now and police aren't looking for anyone else in connection with the fire. How terribly sad for the son who was not in the house at the time - I guess he will never know what happened or why
