Julian Assange - why does he even get a press conference?

Just seen he is LIVE on the BBC News (And possibly elsewhere) - why?

Who actually cares.

He is even using it as an opportunity to deny rape. Why is he even getting air time let alone having people turn up to film him etc.

Arrghh - he really pisses me off.

Seems to forget it was himself that he was his choice and he could leave anything. He has also forgotten why he is wanted in sweden .

Territt, he's chosen to skulk inside the embassy for four years. He is trying to avoid extradition to Sweden to be question on very serious allegations of sexual violence. He has no excuse.

Whining about fear of being extradited to the US is bollocks - he could just as easily be extradited to the US from the UK, there's no particular reason to fear Sweden. Sweden is a democratic country with the rule of law not some tinpot vassal state that automatically does the bidding of the US (sounds far more like us, tbh).

Didn't he offer to speak to the Swedish police from the embassy? they weren't interested. Its made up, a way for the US to get hold of him and I don't doubt his worried for his life.

I am about as interested in the fate and feelings of this non-person as I am in that of the slug that lives near my back door.

If I catch it, I will pour salt on it. A similar ending for Assange might be too much to hope for though.

Iirc, the Swedish prosecutor didn't speak to him as she should have done. It's all been a bit of a legal circus and honestly I think it's a way to extradite him onwards to the US. I thought he couldn't be charged until after extradition? Anyway, I don't like him particularly and think he should be extradited so he can be charged for the alleged offences and justice should be done....not hiding away, costing millions. It is understandable that if innocent, he thinks it is a way for him to be extradited, but that would be harder and less likely to happen in Sweden, I think. The prosecution authority haven't done their work well though, imo.

I don't understand why the Swedish prosecutor SHOULD have to go and speak to him there. He's been accused of a crime, he should be treated like any other that has been charged - arrested, detained, questioned the same way. Not holing up in an embassy demanding they come for an audience with him.

He went in to the embassy thinking there would be a big circus around it all, the whole world would be calling for his freedom and he would walk out a week later as a victorious hero.

What actually happened is that people lost interest after a couple of days, he has been stuck there for 2 years and can't leave without making himself look like a giant knob - he will still be sent to Sweden - as he shuld be to answer to such serious charges

From what little I've read of his press conference, he just wants people to notice him again. He says he'll come out when the security people go away. So nothing has changed, has it? He just wants the attention.

I don't think he'll leave yet. I think it was him testing the waters to see what kind of support he has. And I really don't think he has much support at all from the general public.

Yes, but that shouldn't diminish the sexual offences that he is being accused of. They still need to be answered.
