Bush is showing more common sense these days than Blair, I think.

He seems to have gone quietly into retirement, and does not go in for self-seeking publicity stunts.

If you go back to the Middle East before WW2 the only way that areas became stable was to have 'tremendous war lords' that scarred the shitnobody argued with. Saddam filled that role and the vacuum produced by the West and democracy wasn't powerful enough.

Yes, Bush is higher up the scale. He doesn't need to earn a crust and do anyone's bidding. He has just retired. He is above it all.

I think there is a plan to redraw the map of the Middle East - to break the old Sykes-Picot creation of the Arab states and split these artificial constructs up into smaller states which are no longer multicultural or multiethnic or multi-religious. The original Sykes-Picot lines enabled the French and British to play factions off against each other. But now the plan seems to be to break the larger states into smaller units that will be weaker and more easily manipulated and played off against each other.

Who funded Isis? What is the plan for Syria? Why does Blair say something like not dealing with Assad has caused this problem when Assad was fighting against Isis?

Blair is now laughed at by Boris etc, but Blair deals with important people and he does know what some powerful people want.

Blair is not like Bush. Compared to Bush and his dad, Blair is like a parvenu. He is still climbing, earning, doing what people want him to do. He is a "fixer", some might say a sort of gopher for some very powerful, rich people.

I think Tony Blair does have issues with sincerity and genuinely believing in a cause other than himself. I think he only became Labour because he realised that Cherie would never countenance marrying a Conservative, and regarded his Prime Ministerial role as a stepping-stone into the world of money. I never thought I would say this but I do rather admire George Bush for keeping a low profile and retiring from the world stage,

On Newsnight now, they use the term Islamo-fascists for Isis and they say that Iraq is moving towards civil war. In Ukraine, the Neo-nazis played a large part in toppling an elected President and Ukraine is moving to civil war. Maps are being redrawn.

eddiemairswife .... I wouldn't be too impressed with George W keeping a low profile; the Bush political dynasty is evergreen, and there is a new younger shrub running for high office who don't need his older sibling making the news with quotes, with both feet-in mouth. IMO.

The plan seems to be to weaken the Shia Crescent - Iran, Syria, Hezbollah.

Isis and Al Qaeda etc etc are fighting against Assad in Syria and against Shia in Iraq. But so far Assad is beating Isis and Al Qaeda etc. Now Isis has gained a buffer zone in Iraq and took funds from the bank in Mosul to strengthen itself in its battle against Assad and Shia.

Blair says that dealing with Assad is a must.

He admired Putin, he no doubt would have let Iraq hold onto Kuwait, and then move down the coast to the UAE via Saudi Arabia, to Qatar and Oman - and we'd be driving cars like Fred Flinstone, with our feet, with the Green's in a coalition government with Ukip, in an economic Utopia

Anyone out of government can make populist comments, didn't Farage also say we should take in Syrian refugees before he got a Ukip voter backlash, and changed it to Syrian CHRISTIANS?????????????? Tell me I'm wrong.
