writes Boris Johnson.

This comment was about Blair's essay about Iraq.

"Blair's essay"?

Can he write? Does he know what he's talking about or does someone tell him what to say?

But I think Boris may have a point. It's the eyes.

Ah, the eyes of a zealot.

Perhaps Boris could have him sectioned under a mental health act when he next visits London?

No chance of him being Sectioned. MH beds are being slashed as fast as lightening.

I notice that Bush has kept quiet. What's he up to these days, golf? He was never the brightest spark...

Bush is showing more common sense these days than Blair, I think.

He seems to have gone quietly into retirement, and does not go in for self-seeking publicity stunts.

(Never thought I'd be writing 'Bush' and 'common sense' on the same sentence. It shows how appalling the Blair latest is by comparison).

meditrina, I agree with your posts on the other thread.

If you go back to the Middle East before WW2 the only way that areas became stable was to have 'tremendous war lords' that scarred the shitnobody argued with. Saddam filled that role and the vacuum produced by the West and democracy wasn't powerful enough.

Yes, Bush is higher up the scale. He doesn't need to earn a crust and do anyone's bidding. He has just retired. He is above it all.

Bush Senior recently did a parachute jump to celebrate his 90th birthday.
Bush Junior has had an exhibition of portraits what he has painted all by his own.

Does Blair 'need' to earn a 'crust' or is he just greedy... for money and power (Murdoch?).

I think there is a plan to redraw the map of the Middle East - to break the old Sykes-Picot creation of the Arab states and split these artificial constructs up into smaller states which are no longer multicultural or multiethnic or multi-religious. The original Sykes-Picot lines enabled the French and British to play factions off against each other. But now the plan seems to be to break the larger states into smaller units that will be weaker and more easily manipulated and played off against each other.

Who funded Isis? What is the plan for Syria? Why does Blair say something like not dealing with Assad has caused this problem when Assad was fighting against Isis?

Blair is now laughed at by Boris etc, but Blair deals with important people and he does know what some powerful people want.

"Don’t rule out attack on Iran, Blair says

Vice-President Dick Cheney’s vision of completely redrawing the map of the Middle East following the 9/11 attacks is “not stupid,” and is “possible over time,” former British Prime Minister Tony Blair says.

In his new book, A Journey, the former Labour Party leader wrote that Cheney wanted a wholesale reorganization of the political map of the Middle East after 9/11. The vice president “would have worked through the whole lot, Iraq, Syria, Iran, dealing with all their surrogates in the course of it — Hezbollah, Hamas, etc,” Blair wrote.

On ABC’s This Week Sunday, host Christiane Amanpour asked Blair if Cheney “would have gone through all that lot.”

“Dick was always absolutely hard-line on these things,” Blair replied. “I mean, I think he would openly avow this. His worldview was that the world had to be remade after September the 11th.”

Blair added, “But you can’t dismiss that Cheney view and say, well, that’s just stupid. It’s … it’s not. It may require amendment.”

Blair is not like Bush. Compared to Bush and his dad, Blair is like a parvenu. He is still climbing, earning, doing what people want him to do. He is a "fixer", some might say a sort of gopher for some very powerful, rich people.

I think Tony Blair does have issues with sincerity and genuinely believing in a cause other than himself. I think he only became Labour because he realised that Cherie would never countenance marrying a Conservative, and regarded his Prime Ministerial role as a stepping-stone into the world of money. I never thought I would say this but I do rather admire George Bush for keeping a low profile and retiring from the world stage,

On Newsnight now, they use the term Islamo-fascists for Isis and they say that Iraq is moving towards civil war. In Ukraine, the Neo-nazis played a large part in toppling an elected President and Ukraine is moving to civil war. Maps are being redrawn.

eddiemairswife .... I wouldn't be too impressed with George W keeping a low profile; the Bush political dynasty is evergreen, and there is a new younger shrub running for high office who don't need his older sibling making the news with quotes, with both feet-in mouth. IMO.

The plan seems to be to weaken the Shia Crescent - Iran, Syria, Hezbollah.

Isis and Al Qaeda etc etc are fighting against Assad in Syria and against Shia in Iraq. But so far Assad is beating Isis and Al Qaeda etc. Now Isis has gained a buffer zone in Iraq and took funds from the bank in Mosul to strengthen itself in its battle against Assad and Shia.

Blair says that dealing with Assad is a must.

They rarely seem to mention this on BBC Newsnight

"America's Allies Are Funding ISIS

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), now threatening Baghdad, was funded for years by wealthy donors in Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, three U.S. allies that have dual agendas in the war on terror.

The extremist group that is threatening the existence of the Iraqi state was built and grown for years with the help of elite donors from American supposed allies in the Persian Gulf region. There, the threat of Iran, Assad, and the Sunni-Shiite sectarian war trumps the U.S. goal of stability and moderation in the region."

But there is now one statesman that the whole world listens to and respects - Britain's most popular politician.

"Nigel Farage today spoke out against Tony Blair's comments on the present situation in Iraq and Syria.

The UKIP leader said: "In almost every country in which the West has intervened or even implied support for regime change, the situation has been made worse and not better.

"This is true of Libya, Syria and of course Iraq. Tony Blair's state of outright denial of the obvious consequences of his disastrous decision-making on Iraq is making increasingly uncomfortable viewing.

"There was no place in Iraq for Al Qaeda or its affiliates under the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. Yet now the country is over-run by Islamists who are also making advances in Syria and the whole region is sliding towards a full-scale Sunni versus Shia conflict.

"The lesson is not, as Mr Blair implies, that the West should intervene in Syria, let alone once more in Iraq. The lesson is that the West should declare an end to the era of military intervention abroad."

'Farage' the one policy, one lie 'statesman has said lots of things.

He admired Putin, he no doubt would have let Iraq hold onto Kuwait, and then move down the coast to the UAE via Saudi Arabia, to Qatar and Oman - and we'd be driving cars like Fred Flinstone, with our feet, with the Green's in a coalition government with Ukip, in an economic Utopia

Anyone out of government can make populist comments, didn't Farage also say we should take in Syrian refugees before he got a Ukip voter backlash, and changed it to Syrian CHRISTIANS?????????????? Tell me I'm wrong.
