4yo DD normally wakes up around 7-7:30am. However, we are lucky in that if she goes to bed later it generally means she does wake up later too. She sleeps for abut 10-12 hours a night.

on average, 7-ish, but he actually wants more sleep! If we can get him to go back to sleep, he'll often go another hour. (I know, throw tomatoes at me now.)

However he used to wake up at 4 or 5 before we sorted out blackoout curtains.

Wantbitty - DS1 (3.4) sounds the same as your DD. He's up about 6.10 - 6.20 no matter what time he goes to bed. Thought we may have cracked it as when we were in France he adjusted to the hour difference and we had wonderful "lie ins" until 7.20 but the day we came home, back to usual!! Even when we went camping and he stayed up until 11.00pm he was still awake by 7.00 to 7.30. Am just trying to get him to stay in bed and look at books until we get up at the moment but can't see him going for that one!

My ds(4 next week) sleeps until 9am if he doesn't need to be woken up for nursey.I know how lucky we are dd used to be a 6am riser.

DS wakes up between 5am and 6.30am regardless of what time he goes to bed. So the later he goes to bed the worse it is for all of us the next day. Believe me, I have tried and tried to see if we will ever get a lie in ... but no ...
I don't mind him getting up at 5.30am IF he goes to bed and is asleep by 7.30pm ... In fact, the earlier he goes to bed the later he will sleep in the morning ... bizarre. He will be 7 in November.
DD is 12 hours regardless of bedtime. She is 2.5

DD use to be 5.50am on the dot every morning (!!!!) but suddenly seems to have changed to 6.30 (which is nice) irrespective of what time she goes to bed. Touchwood, she has (at last !) been sleeping through the night as 4 /5 times a week she wakes at night so hopefully this will be start of good nights sleep (at last !!) for all of us (shes 3) DS is between 7 and 7.15 every morning but then he's always been a good sleeper

between 5.30 and 6.30am unless he woke earlier in the night [between 3 and 4] in which case he'll someitmes sleep until 7am.

7am is a lie-in in our house nowadays!

Interesting Ghosty as DS (7 also in Dec.) was a regular 6:45 what ever we did bed time wise but this summer... he goes to bed at 9PM (sometimes 9:30PM - because it is the holiday... tomorrow it's bed time at 7h30!) and gets up at 8:15 or sometimes later!!!! So we have had magnificient lie-ins as DD (5) gets up at 9AM
DD will seep 12 hours... DS anything between 10h to 11h... usually 10ish . He has become quite good as he knows we don't want to be disturb before 9AM at the moment... so he will play very quietly until 9AM !!! Massive improvement to a year ago!

Love reading these sort of threads.... takes me back. I remember thinking i'd never get another lie in ever again with kids.

Message to you all.... when you DS/DD get to age 15 (not as far away as you imagine)... you will be trying to get them OUT of bed for lunch. Can you imagine that?

Report
Mercy · 04/09/2006 23:25

lol the moon - they can bloody well stay there all day, i don't think I would care! Either that or I'd go in and start hoovering at about 6 am to get my revenge.

Ghosty, I've found the more they sleep, the more they sleep - does that make sense? Earlier nights often = later mornings here. But obviously on school days dd has to get up at a certain time but in the long run early night work best I find

DS (4 on Friday) is usually up at 8:30 if disturbed. If he's left then he'll sleep til 9:30/45 ish. Bedtime is 7pm, so that's nearly 15 hours

So we've started setting an alarm for him otherwise the day is nearly over by the time he has breakfast. He's not impressed, but we have start getting him used to real life before he goes to school next year!

dd is 14 mths and usually up just after 7am - so a mere 12 hours .

Mercy.... revenge is mine, don't you worry. I LOVE to bustle into their rooms at 7am to start a cleaning regime or something. If they whinge, I merely say... 'so, this, from the boy who used to wake me at 4am to put his postman-flammin-pat video on for him'!

DD (3.8)gets up between 5.30 and 6am.

If she goes to bed later she still gets up at the same time.

I've taught her to tell the time and she comes bounding in saying 'it's 6am mummy!!!' but absolutely refuses to play quietly in her room until 7am (my holy grail)

DD1 (5) wakes up around 6.30am. We've adopted a new strategy of promoting autonomy and independence at the weekends which goes something like this:

6.30am
DD: I'm hungry
Me : You could go downstairs and get something to eat.
DD: Can I wake up DD2?
