If you have Windows, make sure that updates are enables. Not much more you can do.

It's only possible for your bank account to be accessed online, if you don't do any online banking, if you respond to emails or unexpected links asking for your bank account details. If you've not claimed your inheritance from a Nigerian lottery winner, you're possibly OK.

Which version of windows are you on? XP? Win7? Win8? something else? It makes a big difference.

What antivirus package are you using?

click "start," click "help."

What does it say?

For example, on mine it says

"Featured this month:

What's new in Windows 7

Getting started with Windows 7".

Then click "start," click "control panel"

what does it say?

or, finish what you're doing, close down your programs neatly, click "start," put mouse pointer on "shut down" and click "restart"

Watch carefully, it will close down and reopen, and there will (probably) be a Windows logo that tells you what version you have.

I am also utterly freaked out by this.
I don't do online banking but di shop online now and again.
I am a oldir technophobe. I run my avg every day and update that when ever it tells me to but it's only the free version. Do you think I need another anti virus?

Can I barge in ? I am on windows 8. Am I at risk?

Windows 8 is still being updated by Microsoft who distribute patches (usually after a flaw has become widely known). XP and older versions are not.

You need to verify that your Windows has Automatic Updates set on, and that you have a security package giving virus protection, and firewall set on (this may be included in the security package) and that you automatically or manually run regular and frequent scans.

After that, you need to be chaste in avoiding downloads or opening untrustworthy websites or emails.

You do not have to use Windows, there are other OS around. Do not believe Apple enthusiasts who tell you that nobody attacks them.

Windows 7 gets online updates.

Try Malwarebytes. It's free and detects stuff that normal anti virus doesn't.

Sophos anti virus is also free but it can slow things down. Still that's probably worth it.

Also use advanced system care free from iobit to clean up your system and install missing updates.

Like to see them try emptying my account haha Hmm
