Smokes heavily! Given up drinking! She is 12!!! She souldn't be doing these thinks. As for having sex! What is happening to our little ones?

This one after the other 11 year old giving birth recently, and the 37yo being arrested. Argh!

Amiable · 12/05/2006 10:12

Really shocking!! And she's GIVEN UP drinking!! but she still smokes!! And her mum is PROUD of her!!

Bl**dy hell!! I am speechless - and that doesn't happen often, I can tell you!!

Amiable · 12/05/2006 10:12

Hulababy - LOL!! my post crossed with yours!!

Caligula · 12/05/2006 10:13

I notice hte boy may face legal action.

How preposterous. We raise a generation of children who are taught that sex is a recreation like lego, and then threaten them with the law when they have it.

Poor children. All of them. Sad

Jenswish · 12/05/2006 10:17

Poor girl,

I agree, we tell all our kids that sex is fine but then send them to jail if they have it before the law says they should!

Poor girl,

STUPID MOTHER,, Proud of your daughter?

expatinscotland · 12/05/2006 10:23

Is this for real? I mean, it is a tabloid, after all.

waterfalls · 12/05/2006 10:24

This story has been on sky news this morning.

This makes me so sad :(

sparkler1 · 12/05/2006 10:26

Heard the story on our local radio station news report this morning. I couldn't believe it. Not sure what I was most shocked about - being pregnant at 11 or drinking.
Just thinking about my dd1. She is almost 7 - in another 4 years I could be a grandmother!! Shock Shock

006

She is due in a few weeks, termination out of the question.

wannaBe1974 · 12/05/2006 10:32

shocking shocking shocking. what kind of generation are we raising that teaches that it's ok to be having sex at this age. she's still a child! Will she be allowed to keep the baby? surely ss should be involved and trying to find out why this girl is allowed to drink/smoke/have sex at this age? I know it's one thing when they're 14/15/16, and although it's no less wrong at that age it's harder to keep control of what they're up to, but at 11 she's bearly out of primary school ffs!

wannaBe1974 · 12/05/2006 10:34

actually I think that the baby should be taken into care and given up for adoption. and yes, I await to be shot down for this, but imo at 11 she is definitely not yet fit to raise a child, and given her mother's attitude, the mother is not fit to raise the child she already has, let alone a baby. and imo if more drastic action was taken with regards to these teens, is ss started to get involved more, then maybe some would think twice before having unprotected sex.

Caligula · 12/05/2006 10:36

Absolutely she shouldn't be ashamed of her.

But lord, of her own supervisory skills. And ability to convey love and security so that child didn't turn to sex, booze and fags as a recreation at the age of 11.

No doubt this is what the marketers (whom as I get older I would more and more like to send to Siberian salt-mines) would call the "getting older younger" phenomenon. She'll probably buy the baby playboy vests.

expatinscotland · 12/05/2006 10:38

I see kids this age roaming around town centre at 11PM or later all the time, particularly at weekends.

how is this kid getting hold of cigarettes? or getting the money for them?

from mum?

she should be taken into care.

expatinscotland · 12/05/2006 10:39

poor little baby!

kipper22 · 12/05/2006 10:42

compleyely agree with the last few posts - just makes me so sad that this poor girl has been broight up to see this as the norm. at what age will the baby siblings take up such dangerous past times? the woman does not deserve the precious gift of children let alone grandchildren.

expatinscotland · 12/05/2006 10:44

Wait a second here. Can't you get done for leaving an 11-year-old 'home alone'? If so, then why the hell is it permissable to let these kids run loose in Edinburgh town centre all night? Cuz I've seen it happen, more than once.

The last time I went to town centre at night was to collect a friend from the airport bus. She came in at midnight and I swear I was the only sober person in the street, and the oldest as well.

My middle-class instinctive reaction is that this is shocking and awful and I despair for the poor baby brought into a life with these carers.

But it does occur to me that many girls are reproductive at 11, boy get mad for sex at about 14, and for thousands of years we must have been having babies very young, and waiting till we are 20- or 30-something is quite a modern thing. Grandparents must often in the past have had to help daughters barely out of childhood to bring up babies. In a sense it is the natural way of things.

That doesn't make it the best thing to happen, all things considered - now we have a modern society we hope to bring babies into a better life than this. But... just thinking out loud.

snowleopard, I think it would have been relatively rare in previous generations for girls that young to have reached puberty. I read somewhere that in Victorian times girls generally didn't start having periods until 17 years old, or later if they had a poor diet.

bran · 12/05/2006 11:03
