The 'Bedroom tax', Universal Credit, and various other welfare and public service cuts to be implemented in the coming weeks and months.

Tens of thousands of people will be utterly f**ked by this government. What do you think is going to happen?

The last time the Conservatives had a majority was 20(?) years go. Who wants to bet they'll never have one again?

For the first time ever, i am worrying about how i am going to feed, clothe and keep my children warm. How the hell are we all going to cope?

There won't be riots. It's not the eighties; people are too de-politicised these days.

LineRunner Fri 29-Mar-13 00:38:25

My real fear is that people will simply look sideways to the duplicitous UKIP to 'do something' and that will will lead us futher into the shit.

CardinalRichelieu Fri 29-Mar-13 00:38:59

Riots? Are you joking? It's freezing out.

SchroSawMargeryDaw Fri 29-Mar-13 00:39:37

No, I think there probably will be riots. Just look at last year and that wasn't because people had their ability to feed themselves threatened.

montmartre Fri 29-Mar-13 00:42:47

What happened last year in particular? confused

SchroSawMargeryDaw Fri 29-Mar-13 00:46:41

It was last year wasn't it? All the riots in England?

LapsedPacifist Fri 29-Mar-13 00:50:59

No-one riots these days because of politics. The last lot of 'riots' were just an anarchic shop-lifting spree during some long hot summer nights which trashed local communities and gave the authorities an excuse to further erode civil liberties.

UC pilot has been scaled back.. for now.

It is scary. I hate the Tories and I hate what they are doing to people. Next week is going to be scary and its just the tip of the iceberg angrysad

SecretLindtBunny Fri 29-Mar-13 01:20:38

It will take a few weeks for the changes to kick in fully and then I think we are in for a Summer of Shit.

The theory is there, the reality will need to hit and when it does...

CogitoErgoSometimes Fri 29-Mar-13 09:07:15

No riots. But if that's what you're relying on to usher in a new era of communist repression I think that boat has well and truly sailed.

AnisotropicWeetabixFTW Fri 29-Mar-13 09:12:00

London Riots were August 2011. I was 8 months pregnant and DH was called away at midnight as an emergency and gone for 9 days... happy days.

Meglet Fri 29-Mar-13 09:20:41

If we have some decent weather then I think it could kick off. The tories won't care, they'll all be in the south of france by then and leave it to Clegg to untangle.

Leithlurker Fri 29-Mar-13 09:26:21

We do not need riots or any form of violence. We need civil disobedience and to be civil with our disobedience. A perfect example is the following

The effect was that Ian "ragbag" Duncan Smith had to be smuggled out of the back door of the George hotel in a Laundry basket and he refused to do any of his planned media interviews. Jones in Dad's army was right, "they dont like it up them captain Mannering" I am proud to say I was there and even more proud to say that Scotland has more panda's than we have tory mp's.

Leithlurker - Great link, Iain Duncan Smith throwing out blind people from his speech, how low is that! Failed Tory leader, failed human being!

It is also ridiculous that Scotland votes for SNP and Labour, yet gets a Tory government! Scotland needs to vote for Independance and England needs to vote Labour. Its the only way to get the nasty party out.

Chipstick10 Fri 29-Mar-13 13:09:10

Labour over my dead body,

ItsAllGoingToBeFine Fri 29-Mar-13 13:15:13

What Leith said!

I was really shocked by the coverage of that. The first "heckler" didnt heckle, he stood up and gave a calm reasoned speech about the devastation the Tories are causing. He ended his speech by saying go back to England you ratbag

The ever so impartial BBC reported it as man shouted go back to England you ratbag. Didn't mention any of the other stuff he had said, and gave a very misleading impression.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine Fri 29-Mar-13 13:16:22

And I don't think we'll get riots. Not yet. But there will be a massive increase in things like metal theft and shoplifting.

scarlettsmummy2 Fri 29-Mar-13 13:21:00

All SNP councils in Scotland will not be pursuing evictions if tenants don't pay their bedroom tax when the universal credit comes in. No need to panic!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine Fri 29-Mar-13 13:26:34

Problem is, the non-snp councils aren't.

On the bright side, the Condems are doing a fantastic job persuading Scots to vote Yes...

A painfully funny explanation from Mark Steel in how the faultering economy is due to poor people
