DAily Mail has a headline stating there's some kind of public shooting in USA every 5 days. So not unexpected?

No doubt the NRA will now want to arm the firefighters. If only the firemen had assault weapons of their own and grenades then they could have defended themselves couldn't they?.............

There was an interesting re-run of one of Alistair Cooke's Letters From America the other day.
He pointed out that the lauded 'right to bear arms' of every American citizen was on the understanding that they did not have, nor did they want to have, a standing army, so this was a way for the country to be armed to face a potential enemy.
Of course, now they do have an army, but that condition is conveniently overlooked.
