I'd be happy with

Not helpful at all.

StrawberryMojito Tue 27-Nov-12 18:51:28

Ellie Simmonds or Bradley Wiggins.

BOFingTheDude Tue 27-Nov-12 18:52:55

Jessica Ennis or Mo Farrah.

BlingBubbles Tue 27-Nov-12 18:58:13

It's such a difficult one and I think in any normal year anyone one of them could have one.... I hope wiggins gets it. Amazing achievement winning the tour and then gold in the Olympics a couple of weeks later.

twooter Tue 27-Nov-12 19:01:51

Bradley or jess ennis

Oodthunkit Tue 27-Nov-12 19:04:10

Wiggins has more than just the Olympics
Mo has been doing a lot of sports charity related stuff as well as Olympics & other races.
Jess Ennis & Nicola Adams are good for female role models
Same for Ellie & Sarah plus they are good examples of people with a disability achieving

So no idea really!

YouBrokeMySmoulder Tue 27-Nov-12 19:06:24

Ah but the Tour should count as best team I think.

Cozy9 Wed 28-Nov-12 14:23:39

Why have only 5 women made the shortlist of 12?

YouBrokeMySmoulder Wed 28-Nov-12 14:31:45

5 is loads for sports personality sadly.

Nancy66 Wed 28-Nov-12 14:34:36

going purely on achievement i think it has to be Wiggins.

picketywick Wed 28-Nov-12 14:43:34

I would vote for Ellie, but expects Wiggins to win

Nancy66 Wed 28-Nov-12 14:51:13

it's a telephone vote on the night isn't it?

I think i'll vote for:

....then i've done my bit and it's out of my hands. happy for any of them to win.

ivykaty44 Wed 28-Nov-12 21:15:24

Cozy9 -last year no woman made the list...

ceebeegeebies Wed 28-Nov-12 21:22:17

How come nobody is mentioning Andy Murray? As much as everyone seems to dislike him, his achievements this year are comparable with Bradley Wiggins - if not more so.

An Olympic gold and silver medal sandwiched in between a Wimbledon final (first British man to do this in 74 years) and a Grand Slam win (the first British man since 1936 to do so).

ivykaty44 Wed 28-Nov-12 21:48:30

I thought someone else won Wimbledon? Didn't Andy Murry come in second?

ceebeegeebies Thu 29-Nov-12 05:59:38

yes he didn't win Wimbledon but he reached the final which no British man had done for years, then won Olympic gold and silver, and then won the US open smile

FellatioNelson Thu 29-Nov-12 06:07:05

It's got to be Wiggo surely? I don't envy anyone making the decision this year - it's very, very tough indeed, but all things considered I don't see how it can NOT be Wiggo.

msrisotto Thu 29-Nov-12 06:25:32

Wiggo, successful cyclist though he is, doesn't actually have much of a personality though! Same for Murray! I want one of the girls to win but it's hard to say who.

msrisotto Thu 29-Nov-12 06:26:24

This award isn't based on achievement but personality!

Cozy9 Thu 29-Nov-12 06:35:31

No, it is based on achievement.

msrisotto Thu 29-Nov-12 06:39:23

Well the short list may have been but seeing as the public vote the winner, it's more of a popularity contest.

ceebeegeebies Thu 29-Nov-12 06:41:17

It should be based on achievements but as it is a phone vote by the public it does turn into a popularity contest which is wrong.

Still stand by my previous assertion that Murray's achievements outweigh Wiggans.
