Just saw it on the bbc website

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20164228

Another sad day for the high street. Feeling sad for the 6000 employees.

Very sad. Terrible for the employees.

Sad indeed. But don't understand how it's them and not currys. In my experience, comet have always had far better choice, slightly better staff and nicer stores.

Agree, Lifesagame. I preferred Comet to Currys.

Currys is incorporated with PC World isn't it? maybe that helped them out.

And teh Guardian is going online only. Allegedly. Although not quite yet so they would like you still to subscribe.

I think basically it's because Dixons group are a lot bigger so have been able to weather the storm better.

They did make a loss but largely because of problems in their European stores like in Greece.

It will be very interesting to see what happens now. Currys/PCWorld's main rival really is Amazon et al. There's noone really left on the high street to challenge them.

There will always be a need for a bricks & mortar store. I guess the smaller stores will be closed and they will concentrate on popular stores in shopping centres and popular out of town superstores.

I have always had trouble telling the difference between Comet and Currys
