I sent this email to her agent after listening to her on Desert Islan discs in Feb. And she signed!

"Dear KA Agent, After listening to Karen Armstrong on Radio 4’s Desert Island Disc’s this morning I am writing to ask if you would be so kind as to pass on the details of our petition - the UK Muslim Solidarity petition? We are, as yet, a very small band of people who would like to promote greater sensitivity on the part of the media when reporting acts of terrorism and not conflating the terms Muslim and Islam with terrorism and extremism. As Karen said on the show, she was never asked to publicly condemn acts of IRA violence simply because she was a Catholic, in the way Muslims all over the world are being asked to account for their beliefs in the present hysterical climate.

We have no political affiliations at all and the petition was set up, after much vigorous discussion, after the events of July 7th 2005, on the parent’s forum Mumsnet. The petition is a small gesture towards our Muslim friends on the site and to the wider Muslim community as a whole, whom we know, as Karen said so eloquently this morning, are not extremists simply on the basis of being Muslims. Some of us feel that this is one of the defining issues of our age and that it is important to work towards asking our media to be more accountable in the way it reports such issues.

If Karen could find the time to read the petition (it is very short and simple) and perhaps showing her support by signing it, it goes without saying it would be hugely appreciated."
