I was waiting for someone to start a thread. I'm shy.

Top moment so far was Crystal Tipps's deranged statement before being wrestled into a straitjacket by her legal team.

There is the possibility it could turn into a show trial.

That statement in full. Base notes of arrogance and delusion with top notes of wounded self-pity.

?I am not guilty of these charges. I did not authorise, nor was I aware of, phone hacking under my editorship. I am distressed and angry that the CPS have reached this decision when they knew all the facts and were in a position to stop the case at this stage. The charge concerning Milly Dowler is particularly upsetting not only as it is untrue but also because I have spent my journalistic career campaigning for victims of crime. I will vigorously defend these allegations.?

If I was using Milly Dowler as a get-out-of-jail-free-card I'd give her parents a wide berth

What you mean like keeping the accused up for days, vigorous application of crocodile clips and electricity and then years of internal exile followed by a lifetime as an un-person?

I never thought I'd have a good word to say for Stalin. And at least we don't take people out in the snowy woods and shoot them in the back of the head.

Good. That statement is odious.

perspective I always like the response: 'I think I will be the judge of that.' Especially when it's a proper judge and jury.

I agree, NicholasTeakozy.

I just hope that they have the necessary proof to convict, beyond reasonable doubt.

This will be interesting.

I agree too. I also get the impression Rebekah brooks is one of those people who can convince herself something is true if she keeps saying it often enough! I'm sure she believes she really didn't know anything ... Honest guv!

I think I agree NicTeakozy. And though some people are sloppy, others are meticulous in keeping notebooks and emails.

I'm disappointed in Coulson. I thought he was grace under fire.

I'm not surprised that Brooks rushed out a vainglorious defence. As emmie said, she probably needed it to convince herself.

I think he's been spooked into one. Poor show. Who's it supposed to impress?

NewsThump article with their take. The last two lines '?I think we should wait and hear the facts of the case first. Making snap judgements about their guilt or innocence is not the job of the general public.?

?That?s the job of the tabloid editors.?'

Hahahahahahahahaha

I was hoping somebody would start a thread. She really is the personification of the self righteousness, know-all, don't mess with me type. And then a little drop of poor little me added to it. Glad she is getting her just deserts at last. She really is self-delusional if she thinks she gets any sympathy from this sort of 'speech'.

Grin at Nicholasteakozy!

Oh, glad this thread has started too. Thank you NicT. Is it wrong to be looking forward to the trial?

Report
Greythorne · 25/07/2012 14:41

I think she probably now believes she did nothing wrong. She has been surrounded by 'yes men' (and women) for so long, she has no moral fibre left.

It's not going to be at least spring 2013. Sad

I keep myself going by imagining the evaporation of the Brooks' social life.

A mantelpiece bare of Stiffies;
No more stirrup cups at Hunt meets at Chipping-cum-Sod-You;
A shared Waitrose turkey crown facing each other across a yawning table on Xmas day;
Two crackers (jokes not-so-carefully vetted by the Czech cleaning lady);
No Boxing Day hunting aboard a Met Police nag named Mind How You Go;
No New Year invitation to Chequers with Dave and Sam;
No New Year cruising aboard one of the many Murdoch yachts;

The one upside to being persona non-grata at New Year holidays in the Caribbean or the slopes of Megeve is that Rebekah will save a fortune on SPF 60.

And she can bond with that baby she bought.

Oooh, careful. They signalled ages ago they'd be claiming they can't get a fair trial.

Some guidance from MN Towers on what not to say?
