Am I alone in thinking this could spell the end of Blair and the start of massive trouble?

i think its taken a bit out of context [far be it for me to defend TB] but he said he prayed to God in making his decision about going to war with Iraq. Something Bush has been saying for ages and everybody [mostly] praises him for it over there - thank goodness the Brits are a bit more discerning.

I loathe Blair with a passion but surely praying for guidance isn't a sackable offence these days?

yes, saying he prayed in making his decision is not the same as saying that god told him to do it.

And has he said that God told him to do it?

Yes but, praying for guidance is one thing and being told by God to do something is another thing entirely. On the one hand most people would think "OK, fair enough, at least he/she is thinking deeply about this decision." On the other most people would think "Nutcase, really should be removed from office."

If Brown in the next PM, yes, it is the start of massive trouble . . .

I think all he said was that it was a decision of conscience, and that ultimately it would be judged by other people, and, if you have a Christian faith, then you believe your actions are ultimately judged by God. Definitely didn't say God 'told him to do it', only that it was his decision, and he believed he would be accountable to God, as well as to people.
