Well, we don't have the death penalty in UK so this is very wrong. And it is alarming how unsafe our prisons can be.

Medi, no we don't have however this was not carried out by prison officers or allowed by the government it was an attack by fellow inmates.

I guess I am of the mind one less scumbag to be a burden financially on the state.

I don't think he did, no. Two wrongs and all that...he's somebody's mother's son.

I don't care about "deserve".
I do care about applauding psychopaths who dish out whatever justice they see fit. There's something wrong with that picture...

The people who did this were as screwed up and evil as he was. I see no reason to applaud them.

My thoughts are with his victims who did not deserve what happened to them.

I have no feelings for what happened to him.

No-one deserves to be murdered, whoever they are. We have a long-standing democratic system of justice & if we start cheering at murder we debase ourselves as a society.

What cogito says

I wanted to do some terrible things to the "man" who abused my dd...really terrible things. But if I had...I know I would be no better than "him".
Anyhow,I had to let it go....I was losing my mind.

It's vile; death penalty not supposed to be in force in this country and I hope it never will be (again). As cogito says, no one deserves to be murdered, not even murderers. We are supposed to be better than they are. An ex-con I know has intimated that sometimes the warders will allow a sex offender (particularly a child sex offender) to somehow be left in a vulnerable position where they can be beaten up by other inmates.

I really cannot waste my emotional energy on this criminal.I can be extremely sad and angry about the impact of his actions on the 13 year old he raped and the others he abused.
I would like to see the re introduction of the death penalty and I don"t care what flak I get for saying that.

"Medi, no we don't have however this was not carried out by prison officers or allowed by the government it was an attack by fellow inmates".

He was confined by the State, in a place for punishment and rehabilitation (if possible). There is a direct responsibility for the safety of all those incarcerated. It is a failing in our prisons that murderous attacks can take place within them. It is wrong.

medi it is a failing in our society that 13 year olds get raped and we hand out jokes for sentences in my opinion.

Babycham42: although I woudn't agree with you about the death penalty, it's a position I can respect.

But murder in our prisons is nothing whatsoever do do with sentencing policy.

I don't believe anything I read in the Sun or any of the tabloids and Daily Mail

Report
babycham42 · 05/10/2011 22:59

There I disagree meditrina. If sentencing policy dealt with such criminals effectively, fellow inmates perhaps would not feel it was up to them to dish out what they feel is justice.

Four and a half years for the terror that 13 year old went through. That is what really upsets me.It"s been on my mind all day and try as I might I just CANNOT feel differently.

If I was the mother of one of the children he abused, I would say he absolutely deserved it. However, mob justice is a slippery slope, and not something that I think any rational person would actually want.

I worked on a child murder case in the 90's. I was one of first officers on scene and saw very upsetting and detailed things that day. It was a known paedophile who did it, got him that same day

A mumsnetter sent me a link a couple of months back. The killer, Colin hatch, was murdered in prison earlier this year and I thank god for that. I really do

Report
Sevenfold · 05/10/2011 23:08

do you know, I thought about this on Monday, have come back now, and I still don't care that he was killed

Report
scarlettsmummy2 · 05/10/2011 23:13

I am not going to loose any sleep over him being murdered, however, I don't think this should be seen as normal or acceptable.

I also do think the prison had a duty of care, and this will no doubt lead to an internal enquiry over how it was allowed to happen.

Report
CogitoErgoSometimes · 06/10/2011 06:48

If we're going to leave it to criminals to dish out vigilante-style executions, why bother with a legal system at all? Barbarism...
