Denmark's first female PM and a change of Govn

That's about it really. Election day in Denmark yesterday and not only did this mark the end of 10 years of Conservative rule but Denmark now has its first female PM (about bloody time!)

I find it a positive sign that a left-wing government was elected - seems like (generally speaking in terms of politics) Europe is becoming more and more right wing these days.

I was reading about a last minute slur campaign on her yesterday, actually not on her but on her husband. Politics is a dirty business, they don't play fair at all.
So she won after all.

Some of the papers here ran a nasty smear campaign (about her not paying enough taxes, then her DH not paying enough) I Think it lost Them some votes. Party against party, the Conservative had a couple more seats than the Social Democrats but Danish politics is a multi-party coalition (red bloc vs blue) and the reds overall had more than the blues. Was very close though (89 vs 86 i Think?)

I cannot stand her, and I think she was tricky with the taxes especially not correcting the tax allowance she got until she was trying to become leader, and past the pay back time. One of my friends made a mistake in her taxes that was not nearly as bad and she got hammered and they made a real fuss (threatening with prosecution etc), so it annoys me that she did not get into trouble for it apart from some bad publicity. I also thought conservatives did really badly and it was venstre that got more seats that sd.
On the other hand because she won by such a small majority, and the blue's financial plans were supported by DRV, I cannot see that her being in power is going to make any difference.
