here

MN killed it with the scorn over wooden letters grin

CogitoErgoSometimes Fri 24-Jun-11 13:07:05

End of an era. Think IKEA probably killed it rather than MN, though smile

Mammonite Fri 24-Jun-11 18:40:07

Nooooooo

I love Habitat. Haven't bought anything there for years though. Same as quite a lot of us by the sound of it.

Panzee Fri 24-Jun-11 18:45:30

Aw. I wanted to get a sofa to match my sofa bed.

GwendolineMaryLacey Fri 24-Jun-11 18:45:37

Or my Tzaria dinner service sad

fuzzywuzzy Fri 24-Jun-11 18:51:59

<runs round screaming>

smartyparts Fri 24-Jun-11 18:53:58

I can't tell my sister - her entire house is a Habitat homage

pointydog Fri 24-Jun-11 19:06:21

Always thought it was over-rated.

TheCrackFox Fri 24-Jun-11 19:09:49

We just ordered a coffee table on Monday from them - guessing we won't be seeing that anytime soon.

<sigh>

BitOfFun Fri 24-Jun-11 19:10:46

Oh bugger, Crackfox- will you get your money back?

SpringHeeledJack Fri 24-Jun-11 19:14:11

<kicks pointydog>

there's a time and a place for that sort of thing, and this ain't it

[stern]

pointydog Fri 24-Jun-11 19:17:53

It gave up the marketing ghost in the 90s though, didn't it. It was a shadow of something very 1980s. Not in terms of products, just image.

I loved looking but rarely bought anything. Won't feel the same if it's owned by the same people as Argos and Homebase!

QueeferSutherland Fri 24-Jun-11 22:22:41

I really loved Habitat.

I love the pieces I have from there. They still make me smile when I use them.

I stopped shopping there when the Southampton store closed though.

trixymalixy Fri 24-Jun-11 22:26:53

Tzaria is long gone gwendoline, they stopped making it years ago. I have a search set up on eBay to try and find bits.

Thecrackfox, they are going to honour existing orders and try and sell it as a going concern.

I'm gutted, it's my favourite shop sad

trixymalixy Fri 24-Jun-11 22:27:47

I need another chest of drawers to match my bedroom furniture. Hope I can get it!

hester Fri 24-Jun-11 22:31:29

Now, that is a shame.

Ryoko Fri 24-Jun-11 23:03:43

It's a sign of the times, the condems are squeezing all the disposible income out of peoples pockets, Moben Kitchens and Dolphine Bathrooms have fallen as well.

Roll on the double dip, the "I told you so" and anarchy on the streets.

edam Fri 24-Jun-11 23:40:28

oh, that is a bit sad. When I was little I used to love looking in the catalogue and imagining I lived in all the different interiors.

Ryoko's probably right. Apart from the anarchy bit - we don't seem to be terribly good at that any more.

kerstina Fri 24-Jun-11 23:46:37

Am really sad about this. I love habitat and we were going to buy another sofa to replace the old cordroy sofa we bought from there about 12 years ago. Ikea does not compare.

c0rn551Lk Fri 24-Jun-11 23:48:25

I have never bought anything from Habitat despite it being just down the road. It is ££££ and incredibly poncy.

trixymalixy Sat 25-Jun-11 00:01:11

I don't think the prices were that bad considering quailty. The bedroom furniture we bought from there was solid wood and proper dove tailed joints.

CogitoErgoSometimes Sat 25-Jun-11 08:37:30

@Ryoko.... Moben Kitchens and Dolphin Bathrooms were grossly overpriced - that's why they're failing. By contrast, placed like B&Q and IKEA have upped their game and are doing a brisk trade in more reasonably priced kitchens and bathrooms. Even when money's tight, the businesses that adapt to the market will continue to thrive.
